RIVER FALLS − Callie J. Trautmiller, local resident and award-winning author, takes us back to the Roaring 20s in her new novel Under the Dirt Sky. Told by two characters, this story of crime, hardship, and romance reminds readers of what truly makes a happy and fulfilled life.
When their seemingly different worlds collide, Percy and Carrie never expect to find love in the dirt fields. They soon realize they must let go of long-held family expectations to attain happiness. But first, they must survive.
A.L. Mundt, author of the Messengers trilogy says, “Callie J. Trautmiller paints a smart and lyrical portrait of 1920s strife and perseverance. From the Chicago streets of cons and coin-flips to the bleak, drought-ridden Kansas Dust Bowl, Under the Dirt Sky illuminates the stories of the brave young people who did whatever it took to survive.”
Trautmiller also wrote Becoming American, a WWII young adult novel which became a finalist in the Eric Hoffer Awards, the Indie Book Awards and was the runner-up for the Wisconsin Writers Award.
Her book became available Nov 1, 2022 in hardcover, paperback, and e-book at local and online book retailers, the publisher’s website (WrittenDreams.com), and by request at libraries.
Trautmiller, a River Falls High School alumna, resides in River Falls with her husband, their three teenagers and their dog, Penny. Under the Dirt Sky is her second historical young adult novel. She has been a speaker at many children’s fiction events at schools and libraries, and is an advocate for children’s literacy.
