A possible road rage incident in River Falls resulted in charges for a couple witnesses say were trying to run a motorcycle off the road this summer.

Brendon James Larson, 28, River Falls, was ordered to pay $750 cash bond Aug. 28 on felony OWI-cause injury (second+), felony second-degree recklessly endangering safety, resisting or obstructing an officer, operating while revoked (alcohol related) and possession of cocaine/coca charges in St. Croix County Circuit Court. Angela Mae Steiner, 29, River Falls, pleaded not guilty and posted a $1,000 signature bond Sept. 26 on resisting or obstructing an officer and use or possess with intent to use masking agent charges.

According to the complaint:

River Falls police were dispatched at 5:56 p.m. Aug. 27 to a vehicle vs. motorcycle crash with road blockage in the 700 block of North Main Street. The motorcycle was still at the scene, but the other vehicle had left and parked behind Kinni Café (702 N. Main St.) The motorcycle driver, identified as Tyler Kuhn, 29, River Falls, was talking to Larson, who claimed he was a passenger in the vehicle that hit the motorcycle. Kuhn had road burn scratches on his left lower arm and knee, but denied EMS.

Kuhn told police while stopped at the stoplight at Powell Avenue and Main Street, he had tried to tell Larson that their boat trailer’s turn signal was out. Another witness told police Kuhn and the vehicle occupants appeared to be talking to each other while stopped at the stoplight. When the light turned green and cars began honking at them, the motorcycle took off quickly with the vehicle pulling a boat right behind him. Witnesses said the car was driving aggressively, trying to shove Kuhn off the road. The car tried to pass the motorcycle on the left using the center turn lane and swerved at it, hitting it into the curb. The car and boat then turned quickly onto Summit Road, then left again onto Troy Street before pulling into the Kinni Café parking lot behind the building. The boat trailer had a flat tire. One witness followed them because they were not stopping after the crash.

When police approached the vehicle, it smelled strongly of marijuana. Steiner was in the driver’s seat and told police she had been driving, although multiple witnesses stated a man had been driving. Steiner claimed the man on the motorcycle had pulled up next to them and called her fiancé (Larson) the N word. She said she decided to follow the motorcycle and it brake-checked them, forcing her to try to pass it on the left when the trailer brakes locked up. Kuhn said he was only trying to tell them about their turn signal and the conversation was civil.

Police searched the vehicle due to the strong marijuana smell. They didn’t find any in the car, but they did find two baggies of cocaine in the boat. Larson claimed friends use his boat all the time and must’ve left the cocaine in it after he tried telling officers it was baking soda he used for fishing. Steiner also denied knowing about the cocaine and insisted she was driving. When she was searched while under arrest, police found a bottle of urine in the front of her underwear. She told them she used it for sex.

Larson continued to deny that he was driving and refused to undergo field sobriety tests. He was taken to River Falls Area Hospital for a blood draw prior to being transported to St. Croix County Jail. He had been convicted in Dunn County of OWI in November 2023 and had a revoked license.

Kuhn was cited $124 for operating a motorcycle without a motorcycle license. Larson, in addition to his arrest, was cited $136.60 for passing in a no-passing zone.

Larson is scheduled to appear in court for a status conference at 10:30 a.m. Dec. 16. Steiner has a pre-trial/scheduling conference set for 9:30 a.m. Nov. 21.
