A River Falls teen was caught on camera around town causing thousands of dollars of damage to local businesses and St. Bridget Catholic School in the dark hours of May 29.

Abraham Peter Terlinden, 18, was ordered to pay $1,000 cash bond May 30 in St. Croix County Circuit Court on six criminal damage to property charges and one felony criminal damage to property charge. He was also ordered to have no contact with the businesses and school he allegedly vandalized. If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of 3.5 years in prison and/or fines up to $10,000.

According to the complaint:

Police were dispatched at 5:13 a.m. to BP Amoco (700 N. Main St.) for a broken window. Someone had thrown a rock through the front window and an employee found the damage at 4:52 a.m. The store manager had video footage of the suspect coming to the gas station around 1:52 a.m. They also found a broke window on the Quick Lube side of the building. The damage to both windows was estimated at $1,500.

At St. Bridget School (135 E. Division St.), multiple windows had been broken by thrown rocks. The maintenance person didn’t find anyone inside the school but found large rocks inside. Police also found a bench tipped over, a damaged flowerpot that was moved and topped with a traffic cone, traffic cones and bases thrown all over the parking lot and yard of the River Falls Public Library, a chair lying on the ground, a table propped up in a windowsill covering a window, and more damaged windows on the east, west and south sides. Shattered glass covered surfaces inside the building.

At the playground, a concrete barrier had been moved from the parking lot. In the jungle gym, a traffic barrier was placed in the rings along with two traffic cones. Police found a broken fence on the building’s southwest side, along with writings on the window/door that said “Over throw.” The estimated damage was around $20,000. The school administrator saw only one person on the video surveillance around 2:30-2:40 a.m. They were able to see his face and a stocking cap.

While driving south on Main Street around 6:36 a.m., police saw a damaged window at Junior’s Restaurant and Tap House, 414 S. Main St. Officers found a broken broom handle lying in the grass on the north side of the building near Spring Street. The damaged window had a large crack in it with a board behind it. The estimated cost to replace the window is $1,000.

Officers were then dispatched at 6:57 a.m. to 1482 Riverside Drive where veterans flags had been bent. Two flags and poles had been bent down, which police were able to fix.

At about 7 a.m., an officer noticed damage to the glass door on the northwest corner of Dollar General (320 N. Main St.) The door had been smashed with a landscaping brick. Officers were able to reach the district manager to report the damage. Nothing was missing from the store

At 7:07 a.m., police were called to River Falls Tire Company (410 N. Main St.) for someone who had thrown a rock through their garage door window facing west. A rock and glass were lying on the floor. The damage was expected to cost about $100 to repair.

Officers were then dispatched at 7:38 a.m. to River Falls Housing Authority (555 N. Main St.) for a damaged glass window. The smashed door was estimated to cost $1,000 to replace.

Next on the list at 7:52 a.m. was First National Bank of River Falls (104 E. Locust St.) where a window was damaged. The suspect had taken a landscaping brick and threw it at a window on the building’s west side, causing glass chips on the inside of the building and a mark on the exterior. The cost of the window repair will be $5,000.

Police were then sent at 8:05 a.m. to Starbucks (708 N. Main St.) for damage to their building. Someone had thrown rocks at the window on the west side of the building and a window near the drive-thru on the north side. The Starbucks sign along Main Street was also damaged.

At 10:56 a.m., employees at Dunkin (140 W. Quarry Road) reported that a man had come to their store out on the patio where he hung on all three umbrellas, bending two of them. This happened, according to video, around 1:34 a.m. Each umbrella is worth about $60. The male then kicked a business sign along Main Street.

River Falls Police Department asked for the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect in a public Facebook post. Officers received an online tip identifying him as Terlinden, along with a second anonymous tip. Officers responded to Terlinden’s residence at 289 Kari Lane where they spoke with his mother. She woke Terlinden up, who immediately admitted what he’d done. He submitted to a Breathalyzer test, which registered zeroes. After investigators interviewed him at the police station, he was transported to St. Croix County Jail.

His next court appearance is a status conference at 1 p.m. June 4 in Court Room 3, Hudson.
