RIVER FALLS Police Department Reports

The following incidents were reported to the River Falls Police Department July 31 through Aug. 8.

Sunday, July 31

Police responded at 3:25 a.m. to Holiday (302 S. Main St.) for a one-vehicle crash. Miles E. Lacek, 32, River Falls, had crashed into a light pole. Two witnesses told police he was slumped over the wheel unconscious, but he woke up and got out of the car before police arrived. He at first denied driving the vehicle, but later told police he’d driven there from work to visit with two friends. He smelled heavily of alcohol and had trouble completing field sobriety tests. He was arrested and cited $861 for OWI, $861 for operating with PAC and $136.60 for failure to keep vehicle under control. The vehicle was towed to the police impound lot.

Officers were called at 5:33 p.m. to 511 S. Wasson Lane for a vehicle that had had milk poured over it. The complainant said there was also a new dent on the rear driver’s side panel. She thought it might be the neighbor, since they had gotten into an argument the day before. Police attempted contact with the neighbor without success.

At 8:07 p.m., the Econo Lodge (1207 St. Croix St.) manager requested two people be trespassed from the property for owing $719.76. When he told them to leave, they refused. Police gave trespass notices to Bobby Don Salas, 40, River Falls, and Jillian Marie Salas, 33, River Falls. They said they’d leave that night.

Monday, Aug. 1 William Michael Temme, 55, River Falls, was cited for operate without valid license after a traffic stop at Summit and Main streets. Police had seen the vehicle swerve multiple times in the traffic lane, but there were no signs of impairment. Temme’s passenger, Nicole Jean Johnson, 36, Hurley, was arrested for a felony warrant related to a probation violation/ stolen vehicle charges. She was transported to St. Croix County Jail.

Police were called at 2:22 p.m. to Econo Lodge (1207 St. Croix St.) for a property damage complaint. Two people who had been residing there, Bobby Don Salas, 40, and Jillian Marie Salas,

33, had been trespassed the night before for failure to pay a $719.76 room bill. When they left, they left the room a complete mess. Sticky liquid and coffee grounds were spread across the floor, along with Styrofoam and other trash. Furniture had been moved around. Staff said they’d put together a list of damaged and stolen items.

Officers responded to a two-vehicle crash at 12:55 p.m. at Main and Park streets between a 2012 Chevrolet Impala, driven by Cory Matthew Marek, 23, River Falls, and a 2015 Hyundai Accent, driven by Gabrielle Ann Brotka, 22, Beldenville. Marek was stopped at the stop sign at Park and Main streets, attempting to turn left onto Main Street. Brotka was traveling south on Main Street. Marek said he didn’t see Brotka and struck the passenger side of her vehicle as he pulled out from the stop sign. Marek and his passenger, Kristina Joyce Ann Giles, 24, River Falls, wore seat belts and reported no injuries. Brotka and passengers Lara N. Score, 48, Beldenville, and Nicholas Matthew Score, 23, River Falls, all wore seat belts and reported no injuries. Both vehicles had functional damage. Marek was cited $124 for operating while suspended, $124 for operate motor vehicle without insurance, and $98.80 for fail/yield right/ way from stop sign.

At 8:07 p.m., police were called to Hoffman Park (547 Hanson Drive) for a man walking around yelling at people holding a metal fence post. The man, identified as Adam James Johnson, 43, has been living at the park in a tent for several weeks. Johnson told police he was upset that someone had flattened his bicycle tire. Multiple witnesses said he walked around yelling about the bike tire, grabbed a metal garden stake from the nearby Grow to Share garden and threatened the campground manager’s camper. Johnson was arrested for disorderly conduct, transported to St. Croix County Jail and trespassed from the park. He registered a .157 blood alcohol content level.

At 8:50 p.m., police responded to 2860 Williams Ave. for a fight in progress between four residents. Alexis Rose Meyers, 17, River Falls, was arrested for disorderly conduct, battery (two counts), felony physical abuse of a child – intentionally cause harm (two counts) and misdemeanor bail jumping and transported to St. Croix County Jail. A fight broke out between Meyers and another juvenile over a controller. Two other juveniles tried to intervene, but Meyers allegedly punched one in the stomach (causing her to vomit) and caused other injuries. Two residents were transported to River Falls Area Hospital.

Tuesday, Aug. 2

While conducting patrol at 2:43 p.m. on the White Pathway in front of City Hall (222 Lewis St.), an officer saw graffiti on two electrical boxes and reported it to the Public Works Department.

An employee at Anthony Tobacco (703 N. Main St.) reported harassment from a former employee at 4:43 p.m. and asked that Isabelle Marie Schmitt, 19, River Falls, be trespassed. Schmitt told police she was moving to Florida and wanted her paycheck. She claimed to have had trouble in the past getting her W2 from the business until she threatened to call the IRS. She was told not to contact the owner anymore and that she could get her paycheck at the appointed time.

Bryant Killibrew, 51, homeless, was arrested at 11:02 p.m. outside his tent at the corner of Division and Main streets for a Pierce County failure to appear warrant.

While patrolling Hoffman Park (547 Hanson Drive) at 11:02 p.m., officers made contact with people in two suspicious vehicles, who were asked to leave the park. As the officer went down a paved pathway toward the cemetery, he found a woman lying in the grass near a tree away from the campground. The woman, identified as Jillian Marie Salas, 33, homeless, said she was waiting for her husband to come set up a tent. She appeared intoxicated and since she had four open misdemeanor cases with absolute sobriety bond conditions, police took a PBT, which registered .146. Four misdemeanor bail jumping charges were referred to the district attorney. She was not arrested due to her cooperation.

Wednesday, Aug. 3

Police were asked to respond at 8:15 a.m. to Kwik Trip (1200 N. Main St.) for an ongoing theft complaint. Staff said a man named Lawrence L. Amundson, 59, River Falls, frequently comes into the store and steals Skor bars and Coke cans, but pays for other items. Due to evidence from video surveillance, police agreed to trespass Amundson from all Kwik Trip stores in River Falls. He was served the notice at his home.

At 12:38 p.m., police were informed of an employee acting oddly at 131 W. Cedar St. Police responded and ended up arresting Clyde Michael Palmer, 44, River Falls, for an active St. Croix County warrant. Once at the jail, he admitted to possessing a container of methamphetamine. The container also held three morphine pills. Possession of narcotic drugs and possession of methamphetamine charges were also forwarded to the district attorney’s office.

Officers responded to a two-vehicle crash at 2:13 p.m. at Main and Maple streets between a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by Paige M. Boerjan, 27, Hammond, and a 2020 Honda CRV, driven by Shari Marie Durch, 42, Hudson. Boerjan was backing up out of a parking space and struck Durch’s vehicle, which was stopped at the stop sign waiting to proceed east. Both vehicles had minor damage. Both drivers wore seat belts and reported no injuries. Boerjan was cited $98.80 for unsafe backing of vehicle.

Police responded to a two-vehicle crash at 5:36 p.m. at 520 N. Falls St. between a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Lorrie Burhans, 73, Cornell, Mich., and a legally parked 2011 Ford Econoline van, owned by James Vincent Vanderbeek,

45, River Falls. Burhans was backing out of a driveway, while Vanderbeek parked on the street. He said he honked his horn and Burhans said she thought she had enough room, but she struck his driver’s side door. Both vehicles had minor damage; both drivers wore seat belts and reported no injuries. Passenger Barbara Aguilera, 63, River Falls, also wore a seat belt and reported no injuries.

Officers were called to a two-vehicle crash at 6:54 p.m. at Cemetery Road and Sixth Street between a 2007 Pontiac G6, driven by Daniel Luke Gregory, 48, Hudson, and a 2013 Dodge Avenger,

driven by Chad A. Halvorson, 41, River Falls. Halvorson was making a right-hand turn onto South Sixth Street while Gregory, who was behind him, was heading straight on Cemetery and attending to his dog in the front seat. He noticed too late that Halvorson had slowed to turn and rear-ended his driver’s side rear bumper. Both drivers wore seat belts and reported no injuries; both vehicles had minor damage. Gregory was cited $111.40 for inattentive driving.

Thursday, Aug. 4

Police responded at 2:35 a.m. to Econo Lodge (1207 St. Croix St.) where a woman was causing a ruckus after claiming there were bugs in the bed. Staff said she was also smoking in the hotel room. The woman, Brita J. Britt, 61, Ellsworth, said she had exited the shower and found bugs in the bed. When she asked for her money back or to be transferred to another room, she said staff refused. Officers offered to give her a courtesy ride to her apartment in Ellsworth, along with her belongings. Before she entered the vehicle, there were no items on the passenger floor board or seat. When she exited the vehicle in Ellsworth, the officer found a baggie containing a white crystal-like substance on the floor board. Britt was arrested for possession of methamphetamine and transported to Pierce County Jail. She also had a full extradition warrant out of Minnesota for fifth degree drug possession.

Officers were called to a two-vehicle crash at 5:23 p.m. at Main Street and Cemetery Road between a 2012 Ford Fusion, driven by Alex Raymond Johnson, 29, River Falls, and a 2017 Jeep Wrangler, driven by Brenda Lynn Hartmon, 49, River Falls. Johnson was traveling north on Main Street while Hartmon was heading west on Cemetery Road, both approaching the intersection. Johnson ran a red light and struck Hartmon’s passenger side. Johnson said one of his dogs got in the way and he didn’t see Hartmon’s Jeep. An ambulance transported Hartmon, who wore a seat belt, to River Falls Area Hospital with possible injuries. Johnson also wore a seat belt and reported no injuries. His Fusion was towed due to disabling damage, while the Jeep had functional damage. Johnson was cited $98.80 for operator violate red traffic light.

At 6:24 p.m., a caller reported a possible intoxicated driver who backed into another vehicle and struck a garbage bin in the alley behind Emma’s Bar (222 S. Main St.) The driver headed to Mariachi Loco, where police found him sitting on a bench next to the building. He was identified as Wesley J. Eitel, 60, River Falls and he had a .02 alcohol restriction on his license. Eitel said he’d had two beers at Johnnie’s and a Coke at Emma’s. He admitted to hitting something in the alley, but didn’t know what it was. He told officers he wouldn’t be able to do field sobriety tests and was taken to the hospital for a blood draw. He was arrested for OWI-seventh and transported to Pierce County Jail, where he registered a .204 BAC.

Friday, Aug. 5

At 7:51 a.m., a caller reported a fender bender at 1517 Wasson Court. The caller’s girlfriend was involved in the fender bender, and the other people were begging her not to call the police because they weren’t insured. Dayna Ann Cossetta, 33, River Falls, was driving a 2002 Buick Century south on Wasson Court, approaching a 90-degree corner to the east. Jayden Kathleen Eckstrom, 22, River Falls, who was driving a 2000 Honda CRV, was approaching the same corner while heading westbound. Cossetta rounded the corner and struck the left front corner of Eckstrom’s vehicle, which was still approaching the corner. The Buick had functional damage, while the Honda had minor damage. Both drivers and Cossetta’s passenger, Thomas Joshua O’Brien, 31, River Falls, wore seat belts and reported no injuries. Cossetta, who had begged Eckstrom not to call police, said she was only going 10 mph but couldn’t explain how she struck the other vehicle. Cossetta was arrested and cited $250 for operating while revoked (alcohol related), $111.40 for inattentive driving and $124 for operating motor vehicle without insurance.

At 4:56 p.m., a caller reported a black and green bicycle that had been stolen from the Heritage Park bike rack sometime around July 28. The bike has a light on the handle bars and a bag on the back rack. The owner estimated its worth to be $200.

A Positive Alternatives (2860 Williams Ave.) staff member reported a runaway juvenile at 7:58 p.m. Eau Claire police located the juvenile in their city and returned them to Positive Alternatives on Aug. 6.

A dog fight broke out between two neighbor dogs at 7 p.m. at 3574 Sterling Heights Drive, resulting in one woman getting bitten when she tried to break up the fight. She went to Hudson Hospital for treatment. The offending dog’s owner was provided with quarantine paperwork.

Saturday, Aug. 6

Officers responded at 3:37 a.m. to Apostolic Gospel Church (116 E. Walnut St.) where a man was passed out on the church steps. Police found the man in the grass near the church steps, along with a hat and cell phone. The man, identified as Alexander Vinton Figi, 34, River Falls, was heavily intoxicated and complaining of lower back pain. His preliminary breath test registered a .343 BAC. Since he was out on felony bond with an absolute sobriety condition, he was arrested for felony bail jumping and a probation hold and transported to Pierce County Jail after being medically cleared at River Falls Area Hospital.

Police responded to a two-vehicle crash at 12:46 p.m. on St. Croix Street just south of Powell Avenue between a 2013 Ford Fusion, driven by Kara Ann Standaert, 24, River Falls, and a 2010 Chevy Aveo, driven by

68, River Falls. Baumgartner was traveling north on St. Croix Street past Dale’s Auto. Standaert was leaving the parking lot of 709 N. Main St. and collided with Baumgartner’s vehicle. Standaert looked but didn’t see Baumgartner due to the parked vehicles obstructing the view. Both vehicles had minor damage; both drivers wore seat belts and reported no injuries.

Officers were sent at 8:50 p.m. to 1119 State St. for a possible stolen boat motor. The complainant had traded a 1996 Jeep Cherokee and a boat for a truck, which she picked up in South St. Paul, Minn. The truck broke down in Hudson due to a bad starter, so the complainant had it towed to her residence. The person she had traded with (over Facebook) asked for the truck back, so she took it back to him and reclaimed her boat and Jeep. When she returned home, the man contacted her wanting his starter back. She had explained the situation, but he still wanted it back. He came to her house where she spoke to him, and after he left, she noticed the boat motor was gone. He implied he’d return it when he got his starter back. Police attempted to contact him without success.

A caller reported a man trying to assault patrons at 11:57 p.m. at Bold Burger (106 N. Main St.) Police found the suspect, identified as Ahdronemus Demetric Gooden, 42, New Richmond, in front of Shooter’s. He denied being at Bold at first, but later said he’d gotten into an argument with someone there. He was trespassed from Bold and arrested for a Minnesota warrant. He was taken to Pierce County Jail without incident.

Sunday, Aug. 7 Cade Douglas Wilson, 21, Bloomfield, Iowa, was arrested and cited $861 for OWI and $861 for operating with PAC after a traffic stop for speeding at 2:22 a.m. at Main and Spring streets. Wilson, who smelled of intoxicants and had slurred speech, said he was in town for a wedding. He registered a preliminary breath test of .274. After field sobriety tests, he was arrested and brought to the police station. His two passengers were provided courtesy rides to the Country Inn.

Police were called at 10:45 a.m. to Dick’s Fresh Market (1121 S. Main St.) for property damage complaint. Spray painted graffiti was found on the west side door and a city electrical box.

Monday, Aug. 8

At 9 a.m., a city employee informed police of graffiti found at Hoffman Park (547 Hanson Drive) in a portable toilet and in the shower/ bathhouse and at Glen Park (361 W. Park St.) in the east side bathrooms. Total damage cost is believed to be $200.
