The following incidents were reported to River Falls Police Department Sept. 16-30, 2025.
Tuesday, Sept. 16
Daniel John Kukuk, 38, River Falls, was arrested for felony bail jumping when officers found him laying in the grass near Fifth and Walnut streets. He was heavily intoxicated, violation bond conditions on two felony cases of absolute sobriety. He registered a .22 BAC at the Pierce County Jail.
At 5:30 p.m., police were notified of a bike theft at 360 Broadway St. The complainant’s white, black and blue Trek X Caliber bicycle had been taken from the bike rack (where it sat unlocked) sometime in the last day. Its estimate value is $2,000.
Officers responded to a dog bite at 7 p.m. at 248 Union St. The complainant said his neighbor’s Shiba Inu-Lab mix had run out into the street and bitten him. He worried about medical expenses from the bite since he has no health insurance. He was advised to be seen by a doctor. The dog’s owner was issued a quarantine notice.
At 10:45 p.m., Positive Alternatives (2860 Williams Ave.) staff called police to report two girls, ages 15 and 16, had left the facility without permission. Police located them walking at 11:21 p.m. near Cascade Avenue and Valley View Drive. They said they were walking to the police station and presented police a list of grievances against staff, including alleged physical aggression, smoking with residents, body shaming and more; this seemed fishy considering police had asked them to stop and they didn’t flag the officer down. The officers transported them back to the facility, where staff explained to police how they had prevented the girls from shutting the lights off to play with glow-in-the-dark slime. Police took written statements from the girls for documentation.
At 10:25 p.m., police were dispatched to Wasson Lane and Wildcat Court for a juvenile who fled her father’s residence. She said she became scared after making a joke about self-harm that her dad took seriously; he became upset, yelled at her and threatened to throw things, she said. Police contacted her mother, who came to get her. Police spoke with the father, who had followed the girl in his car, and found no signs of concern at the apartment. The child’s case worker was notified.
Estiven Israel Tenezaca Mendez, 21, Hammond, was arrested and cited $124 for speeding on city highway and $200 for operate without valid license (second within three years) after a traffic stop at 11:54 p.m. at Main and Johnson streets. His stepfather arrived to pick him and the vehicle up.
Wednesday, Sept. 17
Police responded to a domestic at 12:37 a.m. at 1457 Wildcat Court. A male complainant said his ex-girlfriend, who he lives with, had punched him the arm, leaving a red mark. She admitted to swinging at him out of anger but didn’t think she had made contact. Their 3-month-old child was sleeping in another room. Police arrested Hailey Jo Pettis, 21, River Falls, for domestic battery. The Pierce County district attorney’s office later informed police they wouldn’t be charging her, but asked that she be cited $187 for disorderly conduct.
A 14-year-old River Falls juvenile was cited $73.60 for minor possesses or purchases tobacco/nicotine after being found with a vape at noon at the Renaissance Academy (1355 Sunshine St.) She was also given a three-day in-school suspension.
At 11:12 a.m., police took a harassment complaint from a man at 1470 Cemetery Road. A man provided video of his ex-girlfriend insulting him and a photo of her giving him the middle finger that she sent through a parenting app. Police confirmed a court order prohibited any abusive contact between the two. The man said the woman’s behavior had been escalating and he couldn’t take it anymore. Police referred misdemeanor bail jumping and unlawful use of computerized communication systems to the district attorney’s office for the 43-year-old New Richmond suspect.
Police responded at 12:56 p.m. to Family Fresh (303 S. Main St.) for a theft. Store staff saw a woman place a bottle of vodka in her purse on Sept. 16. When she realized staff saw her, she put the vodka back and left. She returned later and was seen placing alcohol shooters in her cart; however, video footage showed they were no longer in sight when she went through the self-checkout line. She did the same thing Sept. 17. Video surveillance showed her hiding between pop pallets and stuffing items down her shirt. Police tracked down Ivy Rae Vincent, 40, River Falls, by her license plate. She admitted to stealing at least two shooters but claimed she couldn’t remember what she did with them. The store didn’t pursue theft charges but trespassed her from the store.
Officers were asked to conduct a welfare check at 4:29 p.m. on a resident at 415 S. Wasson Lane who had made concerning statements and was possibly suicidal. Police, through cell phone pings, located the individual near New Ulm, Minn. and asked a local agency to check on them.
At 6 p.m., police were asked to check on a possibly suicidal woman at an apartment in the 900 block of State Street. She had made concerning statements to a friend over Facebook Messenger; when they reached her, she said it was a misunderstanding after a fight with her boyfriend. She spoke with Northwest Connections, who deemed that she fine to be home.
Police were dispatched at 10:12 p.m. to Positive Alternatives (2860 Williams Ave.) where two 15-year-old juveniles had left the group home without permission. Police located them at 3:42 a.m. Sept. 18 trying to wave down vehicles on Cemetery Road at Wasson Lane.
Thursday, Sept. 18
Cody James Wilson, 24, River Falls, was arrested and cited $986 for OWI after a traffic stop for driving over the center and fog lines at 1:32 a.m. at Winter and Cedar streets. Wilson and a friend were coming home from the casino where they had been drinking beer. Wilson had pink eyes, slow movements, slurred speech and smelled of alcohol. Police had probable cause for an arrest after Wilson performed field sobriety tests. He refused a Breathalyzer test, so they applied for a search warrant for a blood draw at the hospital. After booking, Wilson was released to a friend. His passenger, Maxwell Jeffrey Rotsaert, 22, River Falls, was cited $124 for possess open intoxicants in motor vehicle – passenger.
At 6:52 a.m., a complainant reported illegal dumping at 320 Broadway St. Someone had left a freezer full of food near a dumpster, first observed on Sept. 15. The food inside was rotting, so property management disposed of it. The name “Anthony Biner” was on food labels in the freezer. The case remains under investigation.
At 4:01 a.m., police received a tip about nude photos of a female River Falls High School student being shared among a group of boys at the high school. Police have conducted multiple interviews trying to determine who received and disseminated the photos from the female, who admitted to sending several photos to at least two boys. Forensic investigations have been conducted on multiple cell phones; the case remains under investigation.
Friday, Sept. 19
Police responded at 1:46 a.m. to 353 Nicole Lane #4 for a noise complaint. The occupant denied making any noise and said she’d been asleep, though police saw her on a couch through a patio door with the lights on. The complainant stated she heard banging and crashing coming from the suspect’s apartment, which has been an ongoing issue. Police broke up an argument outside between the suspect and two neighbors after the suspect accused one of them of breaking into her home and damaging the front door, which she denied. Officers notified the landlord that they have been called to the residence for noise complaints 26 times since Aug. 1. The case is ongoing.
At 1:20 p.m., police were made aware of a 25-year-old River Falls man creating a disturbance in the police department lobby (2815 Prairie Drive) asking to speak to a sergeant. The sergeant attempted to speak with the Tosh Charles Allsop, 25, River Falls, but Allsop didn’t believe he was the correct sergeant. The sergeant had left him a voicemail the day prior informing Allsop that he had been trespassed from Chippewa Valley Technical College (500 N. Wasson Lane). Allsop remained in the lobby, glaring at office staff, repeatedly banging on the service bell and knocking on the door separating the lobby from the staff area, demanding to speak to the sergeant. Police arrested Allsop, who resisted and began flailing; he had to be put into a safety restraint wrap before transport to St. Croix County Jail for disorderly conduct and resisting or obstructing an officer.
Officers were dispatched to a vehicle vs. bicyclist crash at 3:14 p.m. at Centennial Drive and Cemetery Road. A 2013 Chevy Malibu, driven by Owen Joshua Aerni, 22, New Richmond, was turning left onto Centennial Drive from Cemetery Road. He turned in front of a 14-year-old juvenile male on a red Huffy bicycle, who was in the crosswalk, causing the bike to crash into his vehicle. The juvenile had suspected minor injuries but was not transported. The vehicle and bike had minor damage. Aerni was cited $250 for failure to yield to bicyclist.
Police responded at 3:16 p.m. to River Falls Montessori Elementary (211 N. Fremont St.) for a custody dispute. The custody order on file indicated that two children were to be released to their father at the end of the school day. As he waited outside for his child, the mother ran from across the street into the school, then left with the child, a direct violation of the custody order. Police advised the father to file a report with family court; they referred a disorderly conduct charge to the district attorney’s office for the mother.
At 3:40 p.m. police were informed of a man passed out on the sidewalk outside of Ptacek’s Family Market (1121 S. Main St.) When they arrived, they found two men sitting on the ground outside The Laundry Room (1025 S. Main St.), identified as Christopher Lee Quiram, 39, Detroit Lake, Minn., and Jerome Walter Zemke, 51, Shakopee, Minn. Zemke admitted he had been sleeping on the sidewalk. Quiram was holding a can of Mike’s Hard Lemonade. Both men smelled of alcohol and had slurred speech. Zemke was arrested for violating his bond conditions after registering a BAC of .271. He became upset and told police he’d just been resting because he was fat. He later told police he had ingested a large amount of methamphetamine and was pregnant, while laughing. Northwest Connections assessed him after he made suicidal comments and deemed that he could go to St. Croix County Jail after medical clearance at the hospital. Quiram was cited $98.80 for possess open container (liquor or beer) in public.
Officers were dispatched at 7:26 p.m. to Positive Alternatives (2860 Williams Ave.) for a fight between two juveniles who were screaming and threatening violence. One juvenile had a bloody nose from being hit in the face and had fled the house but came back. Police learned the 16-year-old had been taunting the 14-year-old continuously, calling her by her legal name rather than her preferred name. She stood in front of the 14-year-old and kept calling her her legal name while telling her to punch her, which she did. Police contacted the juveniles’ respective human services departments, who declined taking any action. To deescalate the situation and prevent further fighting, the 16-year-old was picked up by former foster parents for the weekend. Police referred disorderly conduct charges for both juveniles to juvenile court.
Saturday, Sept. 20
Joseph Michael Riley, 18, Palatine, Ill., was cited $187 for an ID card violation after his wallet containing a fake ID was found on the ground at 8:13 a.m. at Ptacek’s Liquor (1141 S. Main St.) Riley said he lost the wallet while getting gas.
Richard Rice Rogers, 68, River Falls, was arrested and cited $986 for OWI and $986 for operating with PAC after a traffic stop for operating without lights at 10:11 p.m. at Cemetery Road and Main Street. When he pulled over, he almost struck the curb. Rogers was cooperative throughout the entire interaction, telling police he had had two beers at the Nutty Squirrel. After completing field sobriety tests, police arrested Rogers and booked him at the station, where he registered a .10 BAC. He was then given a courtesy ride home.
Sunday, Sept. 21
Nikkolas Dominic Dorr, 19, River Falls, was cited $187 for underage drinking after police encountered him at 2:50 a.m. behind Emma’s Bar (222 S. Main St.) He said he was walking home and being harassed by others. He registered a .197 BAC.
At 11:22 a.m., a mother living in Florida contacted police about her missing 25-year-old transgender son, who lives in River Falls. She said he had been acting erratically and delusional. She had paid for several Lyft charges for him to go to various friends’ houses, but he stayed at none of them. He eventually told her he was going to Minneapolis to “blend in,” but she could no longer reach him. He was entered as a missing person in need of mental health services. At 3:15 p.m., the mother called back and said she had reached her son. He was taken off the missing persons list.
Police responded to a vehicle vs. mailbox crash at 7:18 p.m. at 352 Kamloops Place. A 2019 GMC Yukon, driven by a 16-year-old Prescott juvenile, accidentally accelerated while making a right turn and plowed into a bank of mailboxes. The vehicle had minor damage; the juvenile reported no injuries. She was cited $136.60 for failure to keep vehicle under control.
Ivy Rae Vincent, 40, River Falls, was arrested and cited $986 for OWI after a traffic stop for driving without taillights at 9:36 p.m. at Second and Spring streets. She was also driving about 5-10 mph and police watched her do a complete U-turn in the roundabout at Second Street and Cascade Avenue. She smelled of alcohol and had trouble talking and poor dexterity. She admitted to drinking shooters of alcohol with her friend in the car. Police also found loose prescription pill in her pocket, but she had no proof of prescription. After performing field sobriety tests and registering a .129 BAC, she was arrested and taken for a blood draw at the hospital. After her booking, she was given a courtesy ride home when she couldn’t find anyone to pick her up.
Officers were dispatched at 9:44 p.m. to Positive Alternatives (2860 Williams Ave.) where a 14-year-old had physically assaulted staff. The juvenile bit a staff member and was waving around a piece of wood with staples in it, which staff got away from her. When police arrived, she was holding a bag of shredded cheese and had rolled up her pants to be in “fighting” mode. She had punched a staff member in the head and bit him when he was getting the board away from her. She has also threatened other residents and tried to get into their rooms. The juvenile’s caseworker told police to try giving her a snack and a sound machine to calm her and refused to place her elsewhere. The juvenile had punched another juvenile a couple days prior, sending her to the hospital. Her caseworker said her actions did not warrant being removed from the home; staff were told to watch over her closely.
Monday, Sept. 22
Police responded to a property damage report at 11:46 a.m. at 1430 E. Cemetery Road. A “permit only parking” sign had been run over and broken in two. The property manager identified a suspect, who denied the allegations. Since police had no proof, no citation was issued.
At 8:51 p.m., police received a complaint from a swimmer at River Falls High School (818 Cemetery Road) about a coach allegedly threatening to smash his head into the concrete and stomp on it during an argument. Another swimmer verified the complainant’s account and they both left practice early. The coach denied making any threatening comments and explained the argument to police, who documented statements from all involved.
Tuesday, Sept. 23
At 11:25 a.m., a maintenance person reported finding drug paraphernalia inside a River Falls Housing Authority home at 439 Kennedy St., when they were inside the home with permission. The person found tin foil with burned residue, two rolled dollar bills, a kitchen knife with white residue, a baggy with white pills, and a roll of tin foil on an ottoman, which could be in reach of a 3-year-old child who lives there. Police responded to the home when the resident was home, who allowed police into the home to look. The items had been cleaned up. The resident was adamant the items did not belong to her and were left by guests who had left. The case was forwarded to Child Protective Services for review.
Officers were dispatched to a theft at 2:17 p.m. at Kwik Trip (1238 N. Main St.) An employee saw a man leave the store without purchasing anything and remove a bottle of Coke from his pants while walking to his vehicle. The suspect has entered the store barefoot at 12:57 p.m. Video surveillance showed that he hid a cheeseburger in his waistband and was attempting to take two candy items when an employee confronted him about not wearing shoes. He apologize, left the store (with the burger) to retrieve his shoes from the car, came back in, took the candy and Coke and left without paying for any of it, valued at $11.96. Police contacted the suspect, Benjamin Todd Manns, 19, River Falls, who admitted to taking the items because he had no money. He was cited $187 for retail theft – intentionally take and trespassed from Kwik Trip.
Wednesday, Sept. 24
Officers responded to a two-vehicle crash at 7:46 a.m. at on Cambridge Place just east of Brentwood Circle. A 17-year-old River Falls juvenile was driving a 2004 Toyota Camry east with the rising sun in her eyes when she struck a legally parked 2016 Chevy Traverse, belonging to William Joseph Balk, River Falls. The Chevy had minor damage while the Toyota had functional damage. No injuries were reported.
Police were notified of a two-vehicle crash at 3:05 p.m. that had occurred at 2:30 p.m. at Winter and Maple streets. A 2014 Chevy Silverdado, driven by Joseph Anthony Fuchs, 73, River Falls, was pulling a small handmade trailer when the trailer hopped, detached from the truck and struck a legally parked 2012 Toyota Yaris, owned by Kathryn G. Hector, River Falls. The Toyota had functional damage. No injuries were reported.
Officers took a theft complaint at 2:34 p.m. at Coratel Inn (1207 St. Croix St.) A woman staying there said she had been talking to two homeless people outside the night before who were staying at the hotel. She didn’t let them into her room; she left for a while and when she returned, she found her room had been gone through. She reported $200 in cash, several sweatshirts and other clothing items as missing. She believed the homeless couple had stolen her key while she spoke with them. The case is under investigation.
Police responded to a vehicle vs. bicycle crash at 3:18 p.m. in the parking lot of 1505 Paulson Road. A 2007 Buick Lucerne, driven by Steven Michael Tolbert, 24, Hudson, was traveling east through the parking lot. He didn’t see John Ralph Bondgien, 29, River Falls, who was heading north through the lot on a black bicycle, and struck him. EMS transported Bondgien to River Falls Area Hospital with suspected minor injuries. Tolbert reported no injuries; his car had minor damage.
Officers were dispatched to a two-vehicle crash at 7:32 p.m. just north of Main and Walnut streets between a 2017 Subaru Outback, driven by Ariel Rose Ingli, 20, Hastings, Minn., and a 2015 Dodge Dart, driven by Logan Scott Paulsrud, 20, River Falls. Both vehicles were traveling south on Main Street when Paulsrud rear-ended Ingli, who was stopped for backed up traffic, causing minor damage to both vehicles. Paulsrud said he was looking at the sidewalk for friends he was supposed to pick up. He was cited $111.40 for inattentive driving. No injuries were reported.
Police responded at 7:44 p.m. to 1771 Kimberly Circle where a man reported finding a tracking device in his vehicle when it fell from his windshield into his lap. He said he and his wife are in the middle of a divorce and he had previously found an Apple Air Tag in his glovebox. He suspected her of planting the devices. Police documented the incident.
Officers responded at 8:17 p.m. to Positive Alternatives for a 16-year-old juvenile runaway. She was located near Meadows Drive and Division Street and said she had left to go on a walk because of another disruptive juvenile. When officers brought her back to the house, the disruptive 14-year-old juvenile was screaming at staff and had written profanities on an office window. Staff told police the 14-year-old had run away on an outing to the YMCA, climbed on top of a car at the house, thrown cheese at other residents, yelled, threatened to murder staff members and sexually assault another. She spit on a male staff member, tried to choke him and hit him with a rolled-up pamphlet. Both St. Croix County and the juvenile’s home county declined doing anything with the juvenile, citing lack of qualifying charges. Police forwarded a disorderly conduct charge to juvenile court for the girl, who calmed down after being given a snack.
Thursday, Sept. 25
At 6:46 a.m., police responded to a home in the 1700 block of Windflower Street for an altercation between a 15-year-old juvenile and a family member. An adult admitted to grabbing the front of the juvenile’s shirt during an argument about a broken chair. After interviewing all involved, police determined no abuse had taken place, informed Human Services and the school resource officer of the incident in an effort to get more resources for the juvenile and mediated the situation. However, at 8:27 a.m., the school resource officer informed police the juvenile had not shown up for school. Police and family members looked all over town for him but couldn’t find him. His bike was missing from the residence, and he’d left his cellphone behind. They found a backpack of clothes in his closet and his laptop hidden inside a grill in the garage. A friend reported seeing at Kwik Trip (1536 Cemetery Road) at 7:20 a.m., where he thanked him for being a good friend and left. Police eventually located him at Culver’s where he asked for a cup of water and placed a cellphone in the water. He said he had bought the cellphone at the dollar store and planned to live in a tent in the woods. The juvenile agreed to go home with his family.
At 1:06 p.m., police were informed of a hit and run at Ptacek’s Family Market (1121 S. Main St.) An unknown vehicle had struck the rear driver’s side of a legally parked 2015 Nissan Murano, owned by Suzanne D. Swanson, River Falls, causing minor damage. There are no suspects.
Police responded to a two-vehicle crash at 1:58 p.m. at Main and Park streets between a 2016 Ford Fusion, driven by Lillian Taylor Currie, 18, Stanchfield, Minn., and a 2016 Honda HRV, driven by Abby Leone Biniek, 21, Onamia, Minn. Currie rear-ended Biniek, who was stopped in traffic allowing a pedestrian to cross the street. The Ford was towed due to disabling damage, while the Honda has moderate damage. Currie said she was distracted by looking at her GPS. She was cited $111.40 for inattentive driving. Neither driver reported injuries.
Officers were dispatched to a two-vehicle crash at 3:51 p.m. at Main Street and Quarry Road between a 2016 Chevy Volt, driven by Rebecca Lynn Tschetter Berwald, 58, New Richmond, and a 2016 Chevy Traverse, driven by William Joseph Balk, 70, River Falls. Both vehicles were traveling north on Main Street when the traffic light turned red. Tschetter Berwald said she was speaking to her 17-year-old daughter, looked away from the road and rear-ended Balk, who was in front of her. The Volt had moderate damage while the Traverse had minor damage. No injuries were reported. Tschetter Berwald was cited $111.40 for inattentive driving.
Friday, Sept. 26
Police were dispatched at 7:07 a.m. to 2892 Radio Road for a loose long-haired black dog. It was placed in the dog play area behind the garages. Officers took the German Shepherd mix to the police station, where her owner claimed her at 10:32 a.m. The dog had slipped her collar and run away.
A 14-year-old juvenile was cited $73.60 for minor possesses tobacco/nicotine after being found with a vape at 9:56 a.m. at the Renaissance Academy (1355 Sunshine Ave.) The juvenile told police she had found the vape on the ground after getting on the bus. Video surveillance showed she was lying, that she had the vape in her pocket, which she took out and used before entering the school. This was her second ticket in 10 days.
Officers responded to a two-vehicle crash at 6:20 p.m. at Main Street and Mound View Road between a 2017 Chevy Traverse, driven by Cole Michael Scheel, 18, Wabasha, Minn., and a 2012 Chevy Traverse, driven by Lauren Rene Skov, 21, Hastings, Minn. Scheel rear-ended Skov who was stopped in traffic. Both vehicles had moderate damage; no injuries were reported. Scheel was cited $111.40 for inattentive driving.
At 5:43 p.m., a Kwik Trip (1536 Cemetery Road) informed police of a 19-year-old Stillwater resident who tried to buy cigarettes with a fake ID. The employee confiscated the ID. Police could not locate a phone number for the suspect.
Saturday, Sept. 27
Kainoa Bernard Victor, 23, River Falls, was cited $187 for possession of THC and $98.80 for non-registration of vehicle/auto after a traffic stop at 12:18 a.m. at Main and Park streets. Because the vehicle smelled of marijuana, police searched and confiscated almost 3 grams of marijuana, plus other marijuana products and paraphernalia.
Maria Josselyn Gualan Gualan, 21, River Falls, was cited $200 for operate without valid license (second within three years) and $98.80 for violation of child safety restraint (child under 4 years old) after a traffic stop at 12:31 a.m. at Main Street and Cascade Avenue. Gualan Gualan did not have her 3-year-old child secured in a car seat properly. Rather than arrest Gualan Gualan, they allowed her to walk home with her child after being cited.
Police responded to a property damage complaint at 10:47 a.m. at 429 Kennedy St. The resident reported finding a damaged screen door and window. A neighbor’s video surveillance showed the door being fine at 2:05 a.m. but damaged by 2:09 a.m., though no suspects or objects were seen on camera. The damage was estimated at $200.
Officers were dispatched to a house fire at 1:01 p.m. at 1009 E. Cascade Ave. A witness reported the front porch as “smoking” and said people were trying to put it out. Residents reported smoking outside earlier and thought the fire may have started from a cigarette butt underneath the porch. A fire burned a hole in the deck where a butt can had been sitting. Campus police had extinguished most of the flames with an extinguisher and evacuated the house after noting the siding was melting. The fire department finished the job. One officer was scratched by a cat while evacuating the house.
Police responded to a two-vehicle crash at 3:48 p.m. at Main Street and Quarry Road between a 2010 Toyota Prius, driven by Amanda Eileen Rosario, 34, St. Paul, and a 2018 Nissan Rogue, driven by Anna Marie Lennartson, 31, River Falls. Rosario rear-ended Lennartson when she slowed for traffic. The Toyota was towed due to disabling damage. The Nissan had moderate damage. No injuries were reported; Rosario was cited $111.40 for inattentive driving.
Officers were called to a two-vehicle crash at 5:49 p.m. in the roundabout at Cascade Avenue and Wasson Lane between a 1997 Dodge Ram 2500, driven by Olivia Lola Jewel Robertson, 18, Boyceville, and a 2021 Ram 1500, driven by Christopher Alan Lavasseur, 20, River Falls. Lavasseur was in the roundabout when Robertson entered it and struck his rear passenger side; she said she didn’t see his vehicle. Both vehicles had minor damage. No injuries were reported; Robertson was cited $111.40 for failure to yield right of way.
Police were dispatched at 10:48 p.m. to 600 S. Main St. for a hit and run. Derek William Kreier, 19, Clayton, said he was driving south on Main Street and entered the right turn lane to enter the E lot. A Audi Q3, driven by Paytton Jo Mattren, 19, New Richmond, was right behind him. When he stopped for an oncoming vehicle, she rear-ended his vehicle. Kreier said she refused to give him her information and told him “Daddy will figure it out.” He took multiple photos of her vehicle, the damage and her before she left. He found her vehicle in a different parking lot and took photos of the damage. Mattren allegedly returned to her vehicle, waved at him and left the scene. Kreier’s passenger, Laina Marie Viere, 20, confirmed the account. Police reached Mattren by phone, who said she was at her boyfriend’s house in Roberts. She was dismissive of the fact that she had struck a vehicle and refused to return to River Falls until she was told she could receive more citations if she didn’t. Her boyfriend drove her to the police station, where she claimed no one could tell she’d been driving during the crash, even though she’d admitted to it over the phone. Mattren was arrested and cited $250 for resist/obstruct an officer, $350 for hit and run, $124 for operate without valid license and $124 for automobile following too closely. Both vehicles had minor damage. No injuries were reported.
Sunday, Sept. 28
Sutton Elizabeth Ellis, 21, Woodbury, Minn., was arrested and cited $986 for operating with PAC and $986 for OWI after a traffic stop for driving the wrong way down Main Street at 2:43 a.m. at Main and Elm streets. Ellis almost struck another vehicle head-on while driving down a one-way street. She smelled of alcohol and her passenger told officers they’d been at Shooter’s Pub. Ellis agreed to do field sobriety tests and registered a .16 BAC at the station. She was cooperative throughout her arrest and her stepfather arrived to take her home.
At 12:32 p.m., police received a report of a child with an ankle monitor walking alone without shoes on Cemetery Road near St. Bridget’s Cemetery. Police located the child near Kennedy and Short streets. His father called police at that time to report him missing after he had slipped out of the house when his dad fell asleep. A friend had forgotten to latch the door, which has a special latch on it to prevent the child, who has autism, from leaving. The child was safe and returned to his parents.
At 7:52 p.m., staff at The Sycamore senior living facility (745 Sycamore St.) reported an Alzheimer’s patient missing from his room. After a three-hour search, he was found sitting in his vehicle in the garage.
Monday, Sept. 29
At 12:02 p.m., a 64-year-old resident reported being scammed out of $14,900 by people claiming to be calling about a problem with his Apple Pay account on Sept. 23. The scammers told him his Social Security number and accounts had been compromised by people involved in a money laundering scheme. He was advised to withdraw money from his accounts to prevent unauthorized charges, convert the funds into Bitcoin and provide the scammers with the information. They assured him the funds would be returned once the investigation was complete. He received updates throughout the week, stating the reps had apprehended numerous hackers in the area. They eventually stopped responding to his calls and texts. His banker froze his accounts to prevent further fraud and he was told to inform IC3.gov
Police responded to a two-vehicle crash at 4:09 p.m. at the Highway 35 on ramp at Division Street between a 2022 Honda Insight, driven by Kane Michael Bauer, 43, River Falls, and a 2016 Buick Encore, driven by Aimee Beth Drobinski, 48, Hudson. Bauer thought Drobinski had merged onto the highway, pulled forward and rear-ended her. Bauer’s vehicle had no damage while the Encore had minor damage. EMS transported Drobinski to River Falls Area Hospital with possible injuries. Bauer and his 16-year-old son reported no injuries. Bauer was cited $111.40 for inattentive driving.
Pierce County deputies arrested Kendra Allyse Buettner, 35, Minneapolis, for felony bail jumping, felony possess with intent – amphetamine/methamphetamine and felony possession of narcotic drugs at Kwik Trip (1536 Cemetery Road) after a traffic complaint at 2:58 p.m. about her vehicle crossing the center and fog lines while heading north into River Falls on Highway 65. A K9 alerted to her vehicle, prompting a search. Police located tin foil with burnt residue, loose crystalline rocks and gem baggies.
Tuesday, Sept. 30
Police and EMS responded to a medical emergency at 5:15 a.m. at 939 Fairchild Drive where a 46-year-old woman was found unresponsive in a bedroom. Her fiancé thought she might be having an allergic reaction since her tongue was swelling. Despite life-saving efforts, she was declared dead at the scene. An autopsy revealed a blood clot in her lungs as the cause of death. A rapid urine dipstick test revealed THC and fentanyl, though further testing will be done.
