A Minnesota man pulled over for speeding in Prescott failed to hide his cocaine and meth stash after being arrested and taken to Pierce County Jail.

Daryale Donte Harris, 28, Apple Valley, Minn., posted $500 cash bond March 11 in Pierce County Circuit Court on felony possess with intent – cocaine (>15-40 grams), felony possession of methamphetamine (possession of a controlled substance on or near certain places), possession of THC, possess drug paraphernalia and operating while revoked (alcohol related) charges. If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of 25 years in prison and/or up to $100,000 in fines.

According to the complaint:

Police pulled Harris over at 2:35 a.m. March 3 for speeding at Campbell Street and Orrin Road. While Harris was searching for his insurance cards, the officer smelled marijuana, prompting a vehicle search. Police located marijuana in the glove box and a pipe in the center console. In a back seat pocket, officers found a scale with white powder residue. Harris refused to tell them what the scale was used for. The residue tested positive for cocaine.

Based on the possibility of fentanyl being in the vehicle, the Prescott K9 partner searched the rest of the vehicle. The K9 alerted on the vehicle but nothing else was found.

While at Pierce County Jail, jail staff caught Harris trying to smear a large amount of white powder into the floor. A large rock and a small baggie containing a white powdery substance were near Harris’s jail issued shoes. Harris refused to answer where he had hidden the cocaine. Officers found white powder in his underwear in the genital area.

Police also seized $254 in cash from Harris, mostly in $20 bills, plus a pink Apple iPhone. Jail staff soon found another small baggie of cocaine, along with a small baggie of methamphetamine on Harris. After a strip search, a male detention officer located a large broken bag of cocaine. In all, more than 18 grams of cocaine was located.

Officers discovered Harris is on probation in Dakota County, Minn. He is scheduled to appear in court at 10:45 a.m. April 9 for a status conference.
