PRESCOTT KIWANIS CLUB
The Prescott Kiwanis Student of the Week for Nov. 2 is freshman Makaria Haas, who was nominated by English teacher Tania Novak.
'Makaria has been a phenomenal Honors English 1 student this year,” Novak said. “She positively contributes to class discussions, shows advanced skills in her writing, and demonstrates a consistent and exceptional work ethic. Makaria regularly produces quality work in all areas of English Language Arts and continuously pushes herself to excel, never giving up until she reaches her goals. Her respectful demeanor, her high motivation to learn and do well, and her academic excellence make her worthy of being recognized as an outstanding PHS student.”
Makaria is the daughter of Israel and Melinda Haas and Gary and Maria Houck. The honor roll student owns her own business, The Happy Trees Co., babysits and is a Freedom Park volunteer. She is also a member of National History Day and the Student Council and plays Cardinal volleyball and track and field.
Makaria spends most of her time working on her small business and woodworking. She is currently learning Mandarin Chinese and loves to cook foreign cuisines. She also enjoys lifting, hiking, playing piano, caring for her many houseplants and competing in various writing contests.
Her future plans include becoming fluent in Mandarin Chinese.
“This will allow me to have communications internationally and connect with those on a level that others are unable to,” Makaria said. “I hope to work within the global marketplace and expand my travel experiences as much as possible.”
