An Ellsworth man is facing felony charges resulting from a motorcycle crash last summer in which a woman suffered a traumatic brain injury.

Kyle P. Fautt, 44, posted a $25,000 signature bond Jan. 30 in Pierce County Circuit Court on felony injury by intoxicated use/vehicle and felony injury by use of vehicle with PAC charges. If convicted, he faces up to 12.5 years in prison and/or fines up to $25,000.

According to the complaint: Deputies responded to a single-motorcycle crash at 11:39 p.m. July 9 at highways 10 and 63 in the town of Trimbelle (next to Pierce Pepin). Witnesses came upon the motorcycle crash in the northbound right-turn lane near the stop sign. A woman, identified as Alicia Fautt, 34, was unconscious and lying facedown in the roadway. She wore a helmet; police observed several apparent head injuries along with blood coming from her mouth, nose and face. She was gargling on her own blood with agonal breathing. She had a faint pulse, but her breathing was delayed. Police performed chest compressions on her until EMS arrived.

Kyle Fautt was sitting on the curb island without a helmet holding his head. When asked what happened, he said he didn’t know. He admitted to being the driver and said they’d come from drinking at 63 Bar & Grill. They were headed home to their three children, who were left home alone.

An ambulance transported Kyle Fautt to Regions Hospital, where he registered a BAC of .17. He told EMTs he’d been drinking tequila shots. A helicopter transported Alicia Fautt to Regions Hospital with severe injuries. According to the police report, doctors had to remove part of her skull to control pressure and bleeding.

Officers checked on the couple’s children at home. One child said her parents had left home at 9 p.m. to go to the bar for a drink. The child said she tried to contact them by phone to see when they’d be home but never received a response. Before they’d left home, they had taken shots.

Fautt is scheduled to appear in court at 10:30 a.m. March 14 for a preliminary hearing.
