What appeared to be a routine traffic stop in Trenton turned into a significant drug bust last week.
Krystal Marie Larson, 42, Cannon Falls, Minn., was ordered to pay $2,500 cash bond June 24 in Pierce County Circuit Court on felony possess with intent – amphetamine/methamphetamine, felony possess with intent – heroin, felony possession of narcotic drugs, possess amphetamine/LSD/psilocin and possess drug paraphernalia charges. If convicted, she faces a maximum penalty of 25 years in prison and/or fines up to $100,000.
According to the complaint:
At 1:26 a.m. Tuesday, June 24, police were behind a Dodge Charger that had multiple items hanging from its rearview mirror. They pulled the vehicle over on Highway 63 just south of the Highway 35 intersection in the town of Trenton. Police identified the vehicle’s sole occupant as Larson. She removed two tree air fresheners from the mirror; police also spotted a box of dryer sheets shoved in a cubby on the driver’s seat’s backside. Dryer sheets are often used to mask odors in vehicles. She told officers she was coming from a Bay City friend’s home; the home is known to have drug users in and out of it, according to law enforcement.
Dispatch confirmed Larson’s history of felony drug convictions in Minnesota; she agreed to step out of the car. When asked if any meth was in the vehicle, she blinked hard and said no. She also denied any weed or paraphernalia being in the car and told officers she hadn’t used drugs in three years. When asked if they could search the vehicle, she told them no.
Officers then called a K9 officer to perform a sniff on the vehicle while Larson was detained. A St. Croix County K9 officer arrived and the dog alerted on the vehicle, so a search began. Inside a purse, police found multiple pieces of tinfoil with burn marks on them. In a fanny pack beneath the seat and in a baggie shoved between the seat and center console, officers found almost 20 gem baggies of meth, weighing anywhere from .8 to 13.6 grams, a cut straw with cocaine residue, 43.6 grams of meth, 2.3 grams of fentanyl, 2 grams of heroin, five tablets of LSD and $201 in cash.
Police arrested Larson and transported her to Pierce County Jail. Her next court appearance is a status conference set for 2:15 p.m. July 24.
