U. S. Senator Darrell Williams (Democratic) Too poor to be born in a hospital but birthed instead by a midwife in the backwoods surrounded by cotton fields in Abbeville, Mississippi, Williams says he learned the value of hard work and discipline as a child working in the field, making $2 for every 100 pounds of cotton. One of six children, he strongly sup ports increasing the minimum wage from his own experience and that of family. Williams is a veteran, administrator and educator who was named the 2013 National Principal of the Year. He vows to fight for bet – ter veterans benefits, support the right to bear arms, support educators and advocate for higher teacher pay, support women’s right to choose, work on behalf of senior citizens and more.
