A man fleeing police after a domestic disturbance in the town of Union crashed his vehicle off Highway 10 last week.

Tony Allan Hurlburt, 35, Durand, was ordered to pay $1,000 cash bond Dec. 3 in Pierce County Circuit Court on felony vehicle operator flee/elude officer, two felony bail jumping and disorderly conduct (domestic abuse) charges. If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of six years in prison and/or fines up to $10,000.

According to the complaint:

Pierce County deputies were dispatched at 4:33 p.m. Dec. 2 to a County Road CC address in the town of Union for an unwanted person complaint. A man called police after a woman’s legal husband, Hurlburt, showed up at his residence and blocked them in the driveway while they were in a vehicle smoking a cigarette. The man said Hurlburt was running at the vehicle and screaming at them.

Officers had been at the residence at 9:29 a.m. Dec. 1 when Hurlburt had showed up at the residence uninvited also, where the woman is staying. The woman has a no contact order against Hurlburt out of Pepin County, along with a Dunn County warrant for child neglect.

When officers arrived at 4:49 p.m., they found the complainant’s vehicle backed into the ditch facing County Road CC with the lights still on. Police found the complainant and woman in the residence, where they had run after Hurlburt left. While the woman spoke to police, an unknown number began calling her phone, which turned out to be Hurlburt. She said Hurlburt uses spoof numbers to contact her. The officer answered the phone and spoke to Hurlburt, who was screaming at the woman about their relationship. The call became spotty and the connection was lost.

The woman told police that she is living at the residence with her new boyfriend, though she’s still legally married but has been separated for years. While they were smoking in the vehicle, Hurlburt came down the driveway and blocked them in. He then moved his vehicle beside theirs, exited and began screaming at the woman, but she couldn’t understand what he was saying.

The couple was worried what Hurlburt would do, claiming he has a history of violence, so the complainant began backing his vehicle down the driveway. Hurlburt followed and maneuvered his vehicle around theirs, blocking it in the driveway again. The complainant tried to back toward the house but ended up going off the driveway where it got stuck. Hurlburt then got out of his Jeep, approached the vehicle and began yelling again. He then attempted to grab some type of rope or chain and hook it to the complainant’s vehicle to apparently pull it out. They said he wasn’t threatening them or approaching them with weapons. He ended up leaving without pulling them out, came back, then left again. At that point, they got out of the vehicle, ran into the house and locked the door.

Deputies located Hurlburt’s vehicle near Highway 10 and County Road CC; when officers tried to pull him over, he fled west on Highway 10. Hurlburt crashed his Jeep at the corner of Highway 10 and County Road A around 5:26 p.m. The vehicle was in the ditch on its passenger side and Hurlburt was standing on the passenger window with his head and arms through the driver’s side window, which was broken. He made comments that he wanted officers to shoot him and that he wanted to die. Officers were able to get him out of the vehicle and placed him in restraints. Hurlburt told officers that he had been trying to speak to the woman about getting back together and the welfare of their children. Deputies transported him to Western Wisconsin Health for a medical evaluation before taking him to Pierce County Jail.

Hurlburt is scheduled to appear in Pierce County Circuit Court at preliminary hearing at 9:30 a.m. Dec. 11.
