COVID-19 is surging across the north country, and those who want to be tested now have a free, drive-up, self-swab testing site , thanks to a partnership between the U.S. Health and Human Services Department and UW-River Falls.
The site, which opened November 10, will be open for the next several weeks Tuesday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The free COVID testing, which is made possible through a partnership between the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services with the UW System, will bring 250,000 Abbot BinaxNOW tests for distribution to the 13 campuses of the UW System.
UW-River Falls expects to receive enough tests to do 200 rapid antigen tests per day, as well as confirmatory PCR tests (which look for the virus’ actual RNA) for use when necessary. Anyone five years of age and older may get tested at the surge testing site on campus in River Falls, which will be Ramer Field at the UW-River Falls Dave Smith Stadium. The GPS address for the testing site is 267 Emogene Nelson Avenue, River Falls. Those wishing to be tested can register at www.doineedacovidtest. com, under “Wisconsin.”
