The Spring Valley Cardinals defeated the Durand Panthers at home Friday night by a score of 20-14.

The ground game behind Diego Schmitt was unstoppable for the Cardinals who only attempted three passes on the night but rumbled for 326 yards rushing and three touchdowns on 40 attempts, good for 8.2 yards per carry. Schmitt himself went off for 155 yards and two scores on only 16 attempts.

Spring Valley was a perfect four for four on 3rd down, while the defense did its job holding Durand to four of 10 on 3rd down and three for six on 4th down.

The Cardinals will head to Chetek to play the Bulldogs next Friday. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

Ellsworth

The Ellsworth Panthers beat the Edgar Wildcats on the road Friday night 8-6.

It was the football equivalent of a pitchers dual as defenses went back and forth all night. With only 2 scores in the game, a touchdown a piece, the victor was ultimately decided by Ellsworth’s successful two-point conversion attempt in the second quarter bringing the score to 8-0. Edgar came out of the half and put their own touchdown on the board, but the Ellsworth defense denied them a tied game.

The Panthers were two for seven on 3rd down and 0-2 on 4th down while the Wildcats were 4-10 on 3rd down and 2-5 on 4th down. Both teams had two turnovers on the night.

Ellsworth heads south to Waukesha South High School this Friday; kick off is at 6 p.m. Next week, the Panthers square off at home versus the Amery Warriors on Sept. 1. Kickoff for that game will be at 7 p.m.

Elmwood/Plum City

The Pepin-Alma Eagles won a shootout against the Elmwood-Plum City Wolves with a final score of 46-28.

It was all about the ground game in Elmwood Friday night as all 11 touchdowns came via the rush. Elmwood only attempted three passes on the night but racked up 302 yards rushing.

At the end of the first quarter, the game was tied at 8, but the second quarter is what did the Wolves in. They were outscored 25-6 in the next 12 minutes bringing the score to 33-14 at halftime. The second half was much like the first, very evenly matched with the Wolves outscoring the Eagles 14-13.

Elmwood-Plum city was 5-10 on 3rd downs, only had one turnover and just two penalties on the night. They will look to right the ship this Friday as they head to Blair-Taylor High School to play the Wildcats. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
