William (Bill) Henry Newhart of Hager City, Wisconsin, went home with the Lord on Wednesday, December 16th, 2020, at the VA Hospital in Minneapolis. He was surrounded by his wife and children as he passed. He always spoke about God, so we’re not sure what he’s going to speak to the Lord about now… politics?

Bill was born on July 28th, 1946, in Baltimore, Maryland. He moved to Arlington, Washington, in 1962, where he later graduated from high school. He served in the United States Air Force for four years repairing in-flight fuel systems, one year of which he was stationed in Vietnam and Thailand. He married Shirley (Jilk) of Ellsworth, Wisconsin, on August 8th, 1970. They lived in Arlington, Washington, and Hager City, Wisconsin.

He was a jack-of-all-trades, working for Boeing, and as a dairy herdsman, welder, car mechanic, appliance repairman, and corrections officer for over 21 years in Red Wing for the State of Minnesota. In retirement, Bill completed police academy in Wisconsin to serve as a gun range and patrol officer with the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department. He was a member of and acted as the chaplain for the Bay City chapter of the American Legion and attended C3 Church in Ellsworth, Wisconsin. Bill enjoyed socializing, fishing, hunting, vacations, family gatherings, reading, writing, and spreading the Word of God everywhere he went. As a caring husband and father, Bill taught his children to love the Lord and wore his heart on his sleeve around all who interacted with him.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ruth (Livering) Newhart. He is survived by his wife, Shirley (Jilk); children, Timothy (Christine) Newhart, Kimberly (Anthony) Pirri, Angela (Karl) Pedersen, and Daniel (Amanda) Newhart; 14 grandchildren; and sisters Ann (Donald) Tillman and Carol (Rob) Robinson.
