Softball
Elmwood/Plum City kicked off a postseason run with a dominant 17-2 win over Owen-Withee on May 22. Next up is a matchup at 11-4 Rib Lake on May 27.
Spring Valley also earned a playoff win 5-0 over New Auburn on May 22. Pitcher Megan Harvey struck out 15 in the shutout win. On May 27, the Cardinals will continue their run at 14-6 Thorp.
River Falls lost a pair against Chippewa Falls 11-0 and 12-1 May 22. The Wildcats received a No. 13 seed in the playoffs and head to No. 4 Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln on May 27.
Ellsworth wrapped up the regular season with a 13-8 loss to Fall Creek. The team takes on St. Croix Central on May 27 at home to start their playoff runs. The Panthers beat SCC 13-3 and 20-7 back in April.
Prescott is hosting Nekoosa on May 27 for its playoff opener. Nekoosa is 12-10 on the year.
Baseball
Prescott and Ellsworth battled through a double-header, with the Cardinals searching for a sweep to secure an outright conference championship. Off the backs of some excellent pitching performances, Prescott won 4-3 and 2-1, good enough for an 11-3 conference record to take the title. The Panthers head to St. Croix Central for their playoff opener May 29 and Prescott got a first round bye, taking on the winner of Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau and West Salem on June 3.
EPC closed the regular season with a 2-1 week, beating Glenwood City 11-5 and Cochrane-Fountain City 15-5 before losing to Elk Mound 19-2. The Wolves head to Cashton on May 29 for an anticipated playoff matchup against the 8-14 Eagles.
Fellow Dunn-St. Croix representative Spring Valley closed the year with a 4-3 win over a tough Boyceville team. A 9-8 overall record landed the Cardinals a home playoff game against Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran on May 29.
After 4-0 and 3-2 losses to Eau Claire North, River Falls bounced back with an 8-5 win over SCC. The Wildcats are slated for a pair of games against Menomonie on May 27 and 29 to close out the season.
Boys Golf
Prescott won the Middle Border Conference title in Amery after a second-place finish secured enough points for the team. Senior Tyler Reiter won Conference Golfer of the Year for the second time, winning the event individually. Ellsworth took seventh of eight at the event.
River Falls took second at the Big Rivers Conference Championship event, scoring a 315 as a team. Ryan Swanson and Jaxon Flanagan took second and third.
SV/EPC took fifth of six in the Dunn-St. Croix championship, Durand-Arkansaw won the meet by 32 strokes, finishing with the top five scorers.
Regional events in the area take place May 27 and 28, with River Falls competing in Eau Claire on May 27 and Ellsworth, Prescott and Spring Valley/Elmwood/Plum City in Prescott on May 28.
Track and Field
Each school had its conference track and field meet last week. The first team all-conference finishers were as follows: Prescott’s Andrew Russell (100, 400-meter races), 4x800 relay (Henry Rohl, Wyatt Wrisky, Caden Peterson, Jack Kreager), Eyan Miller on high jump and Ethan West on pole vault. The boys took second as a team and girls fourth. EPC’s Lexi Thalacker (800, 1600, 3200 races), Allie Sauve (triple jump) and Brewer Link (high jump) joined the first team. The EPC girls finished second as a team. Maleah Petersen of Ellsworth finished first team all-conference in discus. The River Falls boys took second with title performances from Ty Bauschelt (high jump), Quin Andrews (1600) and Blake Schneider (pole vault). Jack Silloway, Jacob Hutchins, Bauschelt and Andrews also won the 4x400 relay with a 3:28.22.
Boys Tennis
River Falls took sixth of seven in conference, beating out Chippewa Falls. The Wildcats then went on to take down Baldwin-Woodville 4-3 May 21.
After taking sixth of six in the Middle Border Conference event, Ellsworth took a 5-2 loss to Amery and 6-1 loss to Superior. No. 3 doubles pairing Landen Lee and Max Olson picked up wins in both their matches.
Girls Soccer
River Falls took a 2-0 loss to New Richmond to begin the Big Rivers Conference Tournament. The Wildcats have their chance to get revenge against 14-1-1 Eau Claire Memorial, hosting the team May 29.
