Track and Field
Prescott’s 4x100 relay team of Andrew Lesso, Andrew Russell, Wyatt Budworth and Ethan West broke the State record with a 42.00 time to win the event. West chased down a Mount Horeb runner in the final few meters of the race to secure the win. Mount Horeb also beat the previous State record time with a 42.08, so the two teams brought their ‘A’ game. West also took fourth in the 200-meter dash and fifth in the pole vault, Kyra Dix broke the school record 3,200 time to take 14th, the 4x400 boys (Jack Kreager, Kobe Russell, Will Packard and Andrew Russell) finished sixth and Packard took 15th in the 300-meter hurdles.
Maleah Petersen won the State discus for Ellsworth with a school record throw of 133-feet, 11-inches. Petersen also took 13th in the shot put. The boys 4x200 relay team of Brady Mitchell, Keegan Stahlke, Michael Holst and Levi Nelson finished 12th.
The River Falls boys took ninth as a team at the Division 1 level. Senior Quin Andrews took runner-up in the boys 800-meter run with a time of 1:52.39. Rounding out the individuals were senior Ty Bauschelt tying for fourth in the high jump, Blake Schneider taking fourth in the pole vault and on the girls’ side, junior Olive Halvorson took 20th in the 1,600-meter, junior Bailee Bishop took 20th in the 300-meter hurdles and Abigail Treichel took 19th in the high jump. The 4x200 girls relay took 12th (Isabelle Russell, Mackenzie Schmidt, Tirfe L’Allier and Jayla Johnson). The boys relays had some success stories. The 4x400 team of senior Jack Silloway, sophomore Charlie Burke, Andrews and Bauschelt just missed out on a title, taking runner-up by three tenths of a second. The 4x800 team (Jonah Majerus, Clark Werwie, Owen Koepke and Andrews) took 11th and the 4x200 team (Jacob Hutchins, Mason Novak, Silloway and Burke) took 22nd.
EPC sophomore Brewer Link took 13th in the high jump with a 5-foot-10 leap.
Baseball
Prescott brought in a Regional title, picking up a 5-2 win over West Salem on June 2 and a 10-9 win over Altoona on June 4. The Altoona game had it all, with Prescott rallying from down 9-6 in the late innings, capping it off with a walk-off base hit from Cole Platson. The Cardinals are on a nine-game win streak and keep their season going with a Sectional semi-final matchup in Merrill on June 10 against 21-3 Aquinas.
River Falls got a playoff win at home in a 2-1 battle against Wisconsin Rapids on June 3. The Wildcat pitching has been a strong suit all year, and the postseason was no different. River Falls made the trip to D.C. Everest on June 5 for a Regional Final matchup and were taken down by one of the state’s best with a 23-4 record by a score of 5-1.
Spring Valley was outmatched in the Regional Final by a 16-3 Loyal team June 4, ending the season with an 11-1 loss.
Softball
Prescott was the lone team still alive in the softball playoffs in Pierce County. They headed out to Fall Creek on June 4 after the game was pushed back a day due to the weather. The Cardinals lost 2-1 in an absolute battle, with senior Rory Zuehlsdorf capping off her high school career with a home run and six innings of two-run ball in the circle.
Boys Golf
Prescott made history with its first ever Sectional title at the Hayward Sectional, beating defending Division 2 State Champion Lakeland by a pair of strokes. Tyler Reiter tied for third to lead the Cardinals individually. They compete in Madison on June 9-10 in search of a State Championship.
River Falls tied for fourth of eight at the Wausau Sectional, missing out on a trip to State. The Wildcats got top 10 individual performances from junior Ryan Swanson (seventh) and junior Archimedes Xiong (10th).
Girls Soccer
Entering the Division 2 playoffs, River Falls earned the No. 1 seed in their region. The Wildcats showed why they got this seeding, winning 8-0 over No. 8 Altoona/Fall Creek on June 3 and beating No. 4 Marshfield 2-0 June 7 to win the Regional title. River Falls now takes on No. 2 New Richmond in the Sectional semifinal June 12 in River Falls. New Richmond also has not conceded a goal this postseason and split a pair of matches with the Wildcats in the regular season.
