PRESCOTT — The Prescott Cardinals saw four students sign their letters to head off to collegiate athletics in Eyan Miller, Talli Roth, Andrew Lesso and Violet Otto.
“Today is an opportunity to show support and celebrate the work and dedication of these four seniors,” Athletic Director Matt Smith said. “As a community, as a school in general, we are extremely proud of what they’ve accomplished here at Prescott High School.”
Eyan Miller
Eyan Miller signed to compete in track and field for the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.
“Eyan is known as one of the high flyers of the area as the 2025 Middle Border’s top high jumper at the conference meet, clearing six feet while also placing seventh in the shot put at the MBC finale,” Smith said. “If you don’t understand those two different events… that’s outstanding to be able to do that. Just the athleticism, the grit, the perseverance, the time to be elite at those two events, it’s unbelievable.”
Coach Carl Calabrese recalled Miller’s origins in track and field. He was the lone freshman to qualify for finals in shot put at Regionals. He called Miller “hyper-focused” when he is competing.
“He’s been voted a captain for this year. He’s always putting himself in good positions, making sure that he is taking in every bit of advice, every piece of information that he can,” Coach Carl Calabrese said. “He does a great job of setting that stage for the younger kids to see this it what it takes to be successful.”
During the Calabrese-era, Miller is top-10 at Prescott in the 110 hurdles, shotput, discus, long jump, high jump and pole vault.
Talli Roth
Talli Roth signed with UW-Stout to play softball. Roth had an incredible junior season, batting .398 with 13 extra base hits in 28 games.
“Talli will bring a plethora of success with her as being a member of a State championship squad in her sophomore campaign and winning a Regional championship as a member of the team in her junior year,” Smith said. “Stout is getting a very driven, smart ball player with a mean swing.”
Roth still has one more season to play for the Cardinals.
“She is the most polite, nicest person ever… you don’t find that in every high school athlete,” Coach Nick Johnson said. “I know I’ve enjoyed every second coaching her.”
Stout is looking to build a program under the direction of second year coach Lakyn Krizan, and adding Roth’s bat to the lineup could be an x-factor.
Andrew Lesso
Andrew Lesso is also heading to UW-Stout, signing to compete in track and field. He is coming off a 4x100 State title with a chance to defend the title in the spring.
“I know they will welcome Andrew and his speed with open arms,” Smith said. “They’re definitely getting a good one. If you ever see Andrew run, you don’t see him run, you hear him run. He’s a blur.”
Coach Emily Calabrese said Lesso captures the hearts of everyone around him, and he is one of the nicest and most supportive teammates.
“When I first met Lesso, he was the long-haired Energizer bunny in the back of the weight room, bouncing around like crazy and full of life,” Emily Calabrese said. “Fast forward four years, and we found that Energizer bunny to be a two-time team captain, a multiple time State participant, a school record holder and an irreplaceable starter.”
When Lesso started to seriously consider track at the collegiate level as a junior, the Calabrese coaching duo had no doubt he could be successful.
Violet Otto
Violet Otto signed with St. Cloud State to play basketball.
“Violet has already cracked the 1,000-point barrier and is coming off a first team all-conference season,” Smith said. “I know they’re excited for Violet to hit the floor there in 2026 and 2027 as they look to compete for a conference title.”
Otto helped lead Prescott to a 7-7 conference record a year ago, making a push to the Regional Final. Otto was the conference’s leading scorer, averaging 19.5 points per game.
Coach Owen Hamilton told a story about his time as a JV coach years ago. He said they brought up the eighth grade girls up to practice, and Otto led the youngsters to about a 15-point lead five minutes in.
“Two minutes later, Violet had three straight possessions that made my jaw absolutely hit the floor,” Hamilton said. “Needless to say, she’s been doing that for four years now, and it never ceases to amaze me.”
Hamilton said the four-year starter is coachable and has high expectations for herself and those around her. Otto is fifth in the girls program’s history for all-time scorers with another season to keep climbing.
