Football
Spring Valley joined Prescott in the 5-0 club, winning 42-20 over Turtle Lake to match Prescott’s 30-28 win over Somerset. Spring Valley and Boyceville are both 3-0 in conference play, with the closest teams to them sitting at 1-2. The two squads are set to match up Oct. 11.
Ellsworth fell to 3-2 (2-1 in conference) after losing 32-15 at home against Baldwin-Woodville. BW is proving to be one the Middle Border’s best, sitting atop the conference with Prescott at 3-0.
Elmwood/Plum City got their first win and at a crucial time, improving to 1-4 overall and 1-2 in conference with a 32-18 win over Colfax. The win was an important one because of the conference outlook, taking the Wolves to a three-way tie for third place in the eight-team conference.
River Falls fell to 2-3 (1-2 in conference), losing 40-7 against a tough New Richmond team. The Wildcats take on Hudson this Friday.
Volleyball
River Falls cruised to 3-0 wins over Woodbury and Eau Claire Memorial during the week, but the weekend trip to the Milwaukee Sting Invite brought losses to Sussex Hamilton, Franklin and Luxemburg-Casco. The invitational featured some of the best teams the state has to offer. The Wildcats are a perfect 3-0 in conference play.
Spring Valley took down Somerset 3-0 Sept. 17 before opening conference play with a 3-0 win over Colfax on Sept. 19. EPC lost 3-0 to open conference play against Durand-Arkansas.
Ellsworth and Prescott each started 0-1 in Middle Border play, with the Panthers losing 3-1 against Baldwin-Woodville and the Cardinals losing 3-1 against Osceola.
Girls Golf
Prescott won their seventh straight Middle Border Conference competition Thursday and are a perfect seven-for-seven on the year. The conference squads competed in Ellsworth with Prescott taking a 13-stroke win on a score of 159. Jeanne Rohl tied for first with a 36.
Ellsworth took the lead over St. Croix Central for third in the conference standings after a third-place finish at the event. It was a balanced attack for the Panthers with all six golfers finishing in the 40s.
River Falls hosted a conference meet Sept. 18 and landed in third place.
Boys Soccer
River Falls soccer had a tough week, falling 3-0 to New Richmond and 3-1 to Hudson. While it was not the ideal stretch, the Wildcats did take on two of the conference’s best.
Swim & Dive
River Falls faced a power outage when they traveled to take on Hudson, but stated they will announce a reschedule date when available in an Instagram post.
Tennis
River Falls split the week, beating Rice Lake before losing to Eau Claire North.
Cannon Falls took down Ellsworth, and the Panthers’ second match of the week was postponed.
Cross Country
River Falls finished 12th of 36 teams in their pool of the boys race and 21st out of 33 in the girls race at the Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis.
In Osceola, Prescott took fifth out of 11 in the girls race and ninth of 13 teams in the boys race. Ellsworth placed 10th in the boys race.
