The Prescott Daze Car show was back on Saturday, Sept. 9 on Broad Street and bigger and better than ever. The downtown event also featured vendors congregated in the first block south of the Highway 10 bridge.

Is that Rachel and Joey? Nope, but the effort put into the First National Bank of River Falls “Friends” sitcom-themed float won the award as Most Humorous. Most Musical honor went to the Prescott High School Band. WESTconsin Credit Union won the Community Business Award. The Civic Award went to St. Joseph Parish School, while the Grand Marshal Award went to the Prescott Fire Department.

Prescott Daze Parade Grand Marshal was Tom Lytle. Lytle dedicated decades of his life to the Prescott Fire Department, retiring as chief last year.

A City of Prescott Public Works Department truck in the parade featured a sign stating, “In Memory of Doug Whaley.” Whaley, who worked for the public works department, was on his way into Prescott earlier this year to salt icy roads when he stopped and helped a motorist on Highway 35 whose vehicle went in the ditch. He was struck and killed by another motorist.

Kids lined Cherry and Elm streets for the Prescott Daze Grand Parade Sunday afternoon, waiting for candy and to see the many floats featuring local businesses and organizations. A lot of the kids were donning their Minnesota Vikings gear, foregoing watching the Purple and Gold for the parade instead.
