Greeting on PCSO window not well-received

Posted

An Ellsworth man known for riding his bike around town who has been trespassed from many businesses collected more felony charges after writing a greeting on a window with a rock.

Tejay Allen Skordahl, 40, posted a $10,000 signature bond Dec. 4 in Pierce County Circuit Court on criminal damage to property, misdemeanor bail jumping and three felony bail jumping charges. The maximum penalty if convicted is six years in prison and/or up to $10,000 in fines.

According to the complaint:

Pierce County Jail staff reported vandalism to the sheriff’s office lobby (555 W. Overlook Drive, Ellsworth) at 5:27 a.m. Dec. 3 after witnessing Skordahl etch something onto the glass, get on his bike and ride away. A dispatcher showed a patrol officer the word “Hi” scratched into the lobby window glass over the stairs. The officer tried to rub the lettering off, but it was scratched into the glass. The letters were 4 inches tall and roughly 8 inches long. A bike track in the fresh snow lead away from the window.

Jail staff provided the officer video footage showing Skordahl ride up on his bike and root around in the “Little Library” box. Then he rides over to the north lobby window, picks up something from the ground and writes on the window before pedaling away on his bike.

At 6:02 a.m., an Ellsworth police officer located Skordahl at 112 Evergreen Estates St. Skordahl returned to the sheriff’s office on his bike. He said there shouldn’t be damage to the window because he only used a peanut. He then pulled a bag of snacking peanuts from his pocket. When he checked the window himself, he couldn’t rub the lettering off and only smeared the glass. He was given a damp and dry paper towel , but couldn’t clean the writing off since it was indeed etched into the glass. Skordahl said he didn’t mean to do it and isn’t a criminal.

He was asked to step off his bicycle and into the sheriff’s office lobby, where he was arrested. He was carrying a lot of items but no contraband. He was cooperative throughout his arrest. He had four open felony cases in Pierce County Circuit Court, prompting the bail jumping charges.

Skordahl is scheduled to appear at 1 p.m. Dec. 19 in Pierce County Circuit Court for a status conference.
