Head on over to an old-time Masquerade Ball

PRESCOTT – The Prescott Area Historical Society is hosting a Costume Ball from 6-9 p.m. Saturday Nov. 7 at 235 N. Broad St., Prescott. All are welcome and there is no entry fee. There will be live music, appetizers, and other refreshments. We will display some of our artifacts and nearly 200 photos from old events and families from Prescott’s past. Any costume works or come as you are.

The event is a fundraiser, and we will be asking for donations to help us continue to find, preserve, and present Prescott’s history. PAHS is an all-volunteer organization with a dedicated group of people working at making our local history come alive. We are always looking for new members who have interests and talents to keep us moving forward. You don’t have to be a historian to be a valued member of our team, just a smile.

In Prescott’s past there were dance halls and presentation facilities in many of our buildings. It first started on the riverfront when the Mississippi was main street. Dunbar’s Hall was one, along with others. As the railroads expanded and the railroad bridge opened in 1886, the importance of the riverfront dwindled to be replaced by Broad Street. There were several large rooms that were used for dances, meetings, and even a roller rink.  The International Order of Oddfellows Hall (old Steamboat Inn location) contained an opera house and was used by our schools for plays, concerts, and basketball games.

Stop in to meet your friends and maybe meet some new ones. Communities depend upon those two keys for success. Thanks from PAHS.
