The Prescott Varsity Wrestling Team returned to action on Thursday night as they hosted the Amery Warriors. Prescott entered the evening with an 0-2 record, largely because they do not have a have a full lineup. The team had won seven matches and had lost just four matches. Amery entered the night with a 1-0 record after defeating Osceola 72-6.
At the 106-weight class Benny Olson would wrestle for the second time this season. Olson was 1-0 with winning by fall. Against Amery, Benny drew a much more difficult draw and would lose by fall at 4:33. Olson is now 1-1 on the season.
The Cardinals again would forfeit classes 113, 120, 126, 182, 195, 220, and 285. Amery has a full lineup of wrestlers, so forfeits would again come into play for the team score.
Alex Iberg would again wrestle for the Cardinals at 132lbs. Iberg had been impressive with a 2-0 record. He easily won his first two matches by a fall and a tech fall. Alex again would impress with a win by fall at 2:52 of the match. Alex said he chose neutral in the second round because, “I love going on my feet. I had six takedowns two weeks ago and five last week.” He also spoke of his pin, “He stuck his leg up and saw his head by his knee and I went for my cradles.” Alex also talked about his season, “The season has been going great at 3-0.” Iberg also spoke about the team’s season, “Last two years with bigger teams it was fun we could go out and compete. This year we just go out and all try to get a win.”
For the first time this season Prescott would have a match at 138lbs. This also would allow for seven matches on the night. Freshmen Lono Thomason moved down from 145 to wrestle at the 138-weight class. Thomason was 1-0 with a win 6-1 victory against Somerset. The freshmen fought hard but lost by fall at 4:55.
At 145 lbs., Prescott sent Shane Butler to the mat. Shane entered the night with an 0-1 record on the year. Unfortunately, he would lose by fall at :34 to drop his record to 0-2.
Freshman Nolan Thomley would wrestle for the third time at 152lbs. The freshmen were 0-2 on the season but had battled hard in both matches. School was again in session for the promising youngster as he would lose by fall at 3:14.
At the 160-weight class, Matthew Lynes would wrestle for the first time this season. Lynes had a short season opener as he would lose by fall at :48.
Prescott’sAlex Holt would wrestle at 170lbs. Holt was 1-1 on the season. Alex’s match would end the same way as every other match on the night, as he also would lose by fall at 2:59.
