The Prescott Cardinal wrestling team hosted Baldwin- Woodville Thursday, January 9th. The Cardinals fell by a final score of 65-12.

Joe Schulte and Shawn Thomason were the lone winners

for the Cardinals. Schulte, wrestling at 220 pounds, pinned Dylan Hanson in 1:03. At 285 pounds, Thomason pinned opponent Adam Malstrom at the five minute mark. The Cardinals will be back in action Thursday, January 16 at Ellsworth and the following Saturday at the Ladysmith Invite.

The Ellsworth Panthers boys basketball team is being led this season by junior Mason Anderson. Anderson is scoring over 20 points per game, second in the Middle Border conference behind Prescott’s Parker Nielsen. Jack Janke and Ivan Mendez are also chipping in 13.2 points and 11.4 points per game, respectively. Anderson is also grabbing nearly eight rebounds per game.

The Panthers share the ball very well. Anderson and Mendez both average over three assists and per game. Mendez is also averaging 1.8 steals per game on the year.

Tuesday, January 7th, the Panthers hosted the Amery Warriors. Anderson recorded 27 points, eight rebounds and six assists in the 78-34 win. Janke scored 14 points to go along with four rebounds, three assists and two steals.

The Panthers recently traveled to Spring Valley and handed the Cardinals just their third loss of the season. It was the first Cardinals loss that came by double digit points, winning 63-50.

The Panthers have won four consecutive games and hosted Somerset after the publication of this paper. One week later, the Panthers host New Richmond. *** The 6-3 Prescott Cardinals boys basketball team

holds a strong conference record at 3-1. With eleven days off, the Cardinals returned to action Tuesday, January 11th against St. Croix Central following the publication of the story. The Panthers will be returning to action after their first conference loss of the season that came at New Richmond. The Tigers won 65-30.

Saturday, January 18th, the Cardinals will Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau in the second game of a double header, following the Cardinals girls game against the same school. *** The Ellsworth wrestling team, 2-0 in Middle Border Conference dual meets, hosts Prescott Thursday night at 7 p.m.

Saturday, the Panthers wrestle in a meet at Simley High School, with wrestling set to begin at 7 p.m.

They are back in Middle Border action Thursday at St. Croix Central.

Looking down the road, the Middle Border Conference Tournament ti s at New Richmond High School this year, set for Feb. 8.

In the most recent state rankings: At 120, senior Cole Nelson is ranked 11th at 120.

At 138, senior Charlie Stuhl is ranked third.

At 152, senior Carter Huppert is ranked fifth.

At 285, senior Logan Peterson is ranked second.
