Letter to the editor: Let’s invest in Ellsworth’s children, future

Posted

To the editor,

As a local small business owner, I am writing to underscore the significant value of technical education programs offered at the Ellsworth Middle and High Schools. These programs play a crucial role in preparing students for both higher education at technical schools and for direct entry into the workforce after graduation.

Having been an employer in the trades, I understand firsthand the importance of a skilled workforce. The technical education these programs provide equips students with practical skills that are highly sought after in various industries.

It is noteworthy that many members of our community, including myself, benefited from these courses at Ellsworth High School. However, it is concerning to observe that the equipment and facilities remain largely unchanged even after two decades. As someone who graduated 20 years ago, I am surprised to see the same dated equipment and classrooms that were present during my time.

As a parent of young children, I firmly believe that investing in our school district's facilities is paramount. Our children deserve access to safe and modern learning environments that foster their growth and development. By upgrading these facilities, we ensure that future generations receive the quality education they need to thrive in an increasingly competitive world.

In conclusion, I urge community residents to prioritize the enhancement of technical education facilities by voting yes to the upcoming facilities referendum on Tuesday, April 2, 2024. By doing so, we not only invest in the future of our children but also in the prosperity of our community as a whole.
