To the editor,
Far too many in populated areas of our state take for granted that heat will come from their furnace when they turn up their thermostat because they have natural gas pipes running right into their homes. For 280,000 families in Wisconsin, it is far more complicated. Each year, or more, they have to call up their local propane supplier and order a delivery. Then they must keep an eye on their propane tank, because if it runs out, they are out of luck and out of heat no matter the temperature outside.
This is why so many get irritated when people take for granted where their heating fuel comes from. People like those opposing the Enbridge Line 5 relocation project. A project that without, our entire region could be put into a propane state of emergency – as one major propane supplier has already warned the Wisconsin DNR.
Hundreds of thousands of families in our state depend on propane for survival and those that oppose the Line 5 relocation would be wise to keep that in mind. I only hope the Wisconsin DNR will heed the warnings and approve this necessary project.
