A Neenah woman driving by a house she had burglarized the day before was pulled over and arrested during a traffic stop.

Renee L. Schroeder, 47, posted a $15,000 signature March 6 in Pierce County Circuit Court on felony burglary – building/dwelling, felony possession of narcotic drugs, criminal trespass to dwelling and possession of controlled substance charges. If convicted, she faces a maximum penalty of 12.5 years in prison and/or fines up to $25,000.

According to the complaint:

On March 3, a complainant called police to report a possible burglary in progress at a home on 650th Street in the town of Martell. A witness saw a woman, identified as Schroeder, pull into the home’s driveway and retrieve items from a garage, along with a heavy-looking box. The property owner was not home at the time. While deputies were en route, Schroeder left the home and pulled into another driveway, where she asked to use that resident’s phone, who refused to let her in. The complainant said Schroeder let in a dark gray van with noisy exhaust.

When officers arrived at the victim’s residence, they found a screen lying in the grass and a garden shed with open doors. The resident said the doors had been secured with a piece of rebar and the screen had not been out before. He also informed police that Schroeder was not allowed on the property.

On March 4, officers were dispatched to a driving complaint at Highway 65 at County Road J in the town of Ellsworth. The victim told police Schroeder had driven past his house, despite a no contact order in place against her. A deputy saw Schroeder’s vehicle and requested that an Ellsworth officer, who was behind her, make a traffic stop due to the van’s defective headlight.

Schroeder admitted to driving past the victim’s house and acted like she was under the influence of something. She showed officers a bottle containing Adderall and Xanax and said she had a prescription for them. However, the bottle didn’t have her name on it and contained no other identifying information. This gave police probable cause to search the vehicle.

Officers found no prescription verification in the vehicle. Fifteen Xanax and 43 Adderall pills were found in the pill bottle. Two of the Adderall pills had been cut in half. Schroeder’s vehicle was towed to the Pierce County impound late and she was transported to jail.

In the vehicle, the victim identified two Verizon SIM cards, tax return documents, vet clinic papers, a coffee cup, a guidebook with his business card inside, banking information, a painting of his dog, a gas can, camera and other items, all of which belonged to him. On the floorboard officers located a handheld bolt cutter that had been freshly used.

Schroeder is slated to appear at 9:30 a.m. April 1 in court for a status conference.
