Staff report

Last Friday, the Elmwood/Plum City (6-4, 4-3) boys’ team traveled to Boyceville to take on the Dunn-St. Croix’s (DSC) last-placed Bulldogs (1-11, 0-5 in DSC play).

Nine players found the basket in the 67-39 win. Junior Luke Webb continues his streak of dominant play, finishing with 21 points, nine boards and a pair of blocks while shooting over 50% from the floor in the win. Basil Gilles added 13 points and six rebounds, while junior Dayne Whipple recorded a dozen points, five boards, four steals and a trio of assists in the blowout. Tyler Bauer also contributed 10 points, eight rebounds, a pair of assists and steals, plus a block for the Wolves. Boyceville seniors Walker Retz and Connor Sempf combined to score 27 points to lead the home team.

Elmwood/Plum City’s roster is full of veterans like seniors Gilles and Bauer, and they’re all starting to get more comfortable in leadership roles.

“My seniors and some of my juniors are beginning_ to use their voices and provide some direction to their teammates. I'm really happy to see that growth,” Coach Kyle Webb stated.

The Wolves are very focused on the practice court learning from in-game mistakes.

“We prepared by working hard on our defense on the three-point shot and moving our feet,” Webb said. “Our offense is looking to go up against their 1-3-1 again.”

As the conference slate continues to shorten up, the Wolves are trying to make sure they’re prepared for the postseason.

“For the rest of the season, we would like to win out and go into the playoffs with a full head of steam,” Webb elaborated.

Wolves girls beat Spring Valley

The Plum City/Elmwood (4-8, 2-6 in DSC play) put an end to a five-game losing streak with a dominant performance on the road at Spring Valley (1-12, 1-9 in DSC play).

Junior Maggie Glaus established herself as one of the top players in the conference with a 33-point, 10-rebound double-double in the 74-43 blowout.

The Wolves wasted no time getting their business taken care of, jumping out to a 41-23 lead at the mid-game break. They didn’t let up in the second half, outscoring the Cardinals 33-20 in the final stanza.

Sophomore Lily Webb added 11 points and four assists, while junior Hannah Baier recorded nine points, three rebounds and a pair of assists. Sophomore Hannah Forster’s six assists led the team, while she also finished the game with five points and boards.

The Wolves have a busy and important week ahead of them on the road as they traveled to Elk Mound (7-6, 7-2 in DSC) on Tuesday, Boyceville (2-10, 0-8 in DSC) on Thursday and Spring Valley on Friday before heading to Durand (10-4, 8-2 in DSC) next week Monday.
