Brothers Brock and Trevor Steger of Prescott have always had a love for the game of basketball, so when the opportunity came to run a business dedicated to it, they knew they could not pass up the opportunity.
The two operate a Shoot 360 location in Woodbury, Minn. that opened its doors a few months ago. Shoot 360 is a place for basketball players looking to improve their game that has the same technology many NBA players use to train, and there are franchised locations around the United States and a few international locations.
“We’re the world’s most advanced basketball training facility,” Brock said. “We use science and technology to help you get better faster. Sort of a gamified approach to basketball training. We’re using the same technology that 28 of the 30 NBA teams are using.”
Athletes receive instant tracking and feedback in order to quickly improve their form and fundamentals. Brock said while the technology is as good as it gets, it is available to everyone, no matter the skill level.
“Sometimes I think there’s a perception that, man, if you’re paying for a membership at Shoot 360, if you’re getting training it’s the same technology that the NBA players are using, you really almost have to pass a test to qualify,” Brock said. “That’s not the case. Our most dedicated members are not necessarily our most talented members, even though we certainly have some very talented members. They’re the grinders. They’re the people that want to put in the work.”
Brock and Trevor grew up playing basketball in Prescott, with Brock going to UW-La Crosse to study sports management and coaching at La Crosse Central. Brock fell in love with coaching, but eventually went off to study business at the University of Minnesota and worked at Wells Fargo.
“I never really lost touch with basketball,” Brock said.
Brock moved to Charlotte and coached Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) basketball. A Shoot 360 location opened nearby about a year and a half before the brothers opened theirs. When Trevor paid Brock a visit, they went to the facility to check it out.
“We kind of fell in love with the concept,” Brock said. “The owner out there agreed to meet with us and share his experience and put us in touch with some people on the corporate side. One thing led to another and we were able to open our own.”
Working alongside his brother has been a great experience for Brock, as they both have trust in each other.
“There’s just a lot of trust,” Brock said. “We mostly agree, but if there is something that he feels one way and I feel another, there’s just a lot of respect and trust on that front.”
The two do not let their egos get in the way and simply make the decisions they feel are best for the athletes and the company.
Brock said everyone is eligible for a free one-hour workout; all they have to do is call to go through the workout with a coach leading them to see if it is a good fit.
