RIVER FALLS – “Little did we know when we planned on the theme back in November that we’d actually be able to golf in February,” joked Executive Director Russ Korpela as he kicked of the River Falls Area Chamber of Commerce & Tourism Bureau annual dinner Thursday, Feb. 8 at Kilkarney Hills. The event featured a “Caddyshack” theme, complete with gophers, golf polos, and visors.

Chamber Board Chair Sheri Marnell, director of the St. Croix Valley Business Innovation Center, assured those in attendance the chamber would not exist without the businesses in the room.

“This year we steer the sail in a slightly different direction,” she said while speaking of the 2023 highlights and 2024 hopes.

The priority of the organization will remain its members, which total 300+. A climate survey will be going out to members, along with the launch of a new marketing campaign that will be detailed at the April 4 State of the Chamber business breakfast. Members will also the launch of an online member dashboard, so stay tuned.

The chamber is also planning to renew its commitment to promoting tourism in “Western Wisconsin’s Hometown.” A new tourism website, experienceriverfalls.com, urges people to visit and feel like River Falls is their friendly hometown, a place of iconic taverns, tree-lined streets, festivals year-round, mouth-watering food and craft beverage, live music and outdoor adventures, Korpela said. River Falls is a safe, friendly place to have fun.

He teased the lineup and tickets will be released this week for the 2024 Bluegrass, Bourbon & Brews festival, set for April 19-21. Korpela also spoke about the record-breaking attendance at River Falls Days in 2023 and thanked Mayor Dan Toland for funding the fireworks in 2023 and for the 50th anniversary in 2024. And, a new signature community event will be announced this fall.

“Tourism and special events especially help our retail members,” Korpela said. “They are a great return on investment.

The Chamber will also be launching a “shop local and community news” podcast, featuring local business owners. 2024 will be an exciting year in River Falls, from the sound of it. Make sure to watch their websites, social media and the Journal for updates.
