PRESCOTT — Prescott’s head wrestling coach of two years, Ian Ruble, announced his resignation in a letter posted to Facebook on March 11. In addition to resigning as head wrestling coach, Ruble resigned as a football assistant coach.
Ruble’s letter read as follows:
“Dear Prescott Community, Athletic Department and Administration,
“I hope this letter finds you well. After much thought and consideration, I am writing to formally resign from my position as Head Wrestling and Assistant Football Coach.
“The decision to leave is never an easy one. However, it has been brought to my attention my philosophical ideology of coaching and in running a program does not align with the organization’s. To avoid these discrepancies affecting the athletes and consulting with fellow coaches I felt it best to step away.
“I have been tremendously blessed to be granted the opportunity to impact the lives of the student athletes in Prescott and to be impacted by them in return. The sum of my experiences has left a lasting place in my heart and hold value in my life.
“A final thought I’d like to add is the emphasis we place on being a coach. The kids matter, how and why we coach is rooted in our passion for growing the sport in their eyes. Trophies and accolades matter, but what matters more is the impact one leaves on their athletes. Whether the kid is disenfranchised or has a well-established support network, our encouragement and passion for their growth should never waver. A culture of success is one where success is personalized to the individual. Thank you for your understanding and support. I wish the wrestling, football and Prescott communities continued success.
Go Cardinals!”
Prescott Activities Director Matt Smith thanked Ruble for his time in a statement to the Journal.
“On behalf of Prescott and our Activities Department, I want to sincerely thank Coach Ruble for his work and commitment during his time at PHS. His dedication to building meaningful relationships with his athletes and helping them reach their potential was a strength that is appreciated. He is a man of true character and we were fortunate to have him here in Prescott for three years serving the community as an Assistant Wrestling and Football coach and as our Head Wrestling Coach for the last two years. Thank you Coach Ruble,” Smith stated.
Looking ahead, Smith plans to have an answer in place for the next head coach question by late spring or early summer.
“The job will be posted within a couple of weeks as we sort through what we are looking for in our next Head Coach and see what openings we may have in the District. The plan is to approve our hire by the middle of May to have our next Head Coach in place for June,” Smith stated.
