The Prescott Cardinals girls basketball team is ranked #5 in Division 3 in the most recent Wisconsin state rankings._ The only loss Rob Radloff’s charges suffered this season was to the Hudson Raiders, the #7 ranked team in Division I. St. Croix Falls is the only other team in the Somerset sectional ranked in the Top 10.__ More accolades for senior guard Isabella Lenz._ Wisconsin Sports Network awards are presented annually to deserving senior student-athletes selected to represent one of five categories:_ point guard, wing, post, defense and shooter._ Lenz has been nominated in the “shooter”category by WSN. Watch lists will be created from a combination of coach input and nominations, returning all-conference lists, WSN player rankings, and player evaluation._ Lenz is poised to become the most prolific girls basketball scorer in Prescott history. The Cardinals return home this Thursday when they host the Durand Panthers who are tied with Colfax atop the Dunn-St. Croix Conference standings. _ Sophomore Jordan Malmlov and Freshman Dallas Wallin combined to score 60 of Prescott’s 78 points in the Cardinals victory last Monday against Ellsworth. Malmlov scored a career high 37 points and Wallin 23_ as the Cardinals kept pace with St. Croix Central atop the Middle Border Conference. In a non conference tilt last Tuesday, Wallin scored a career best 25 points as the Cardinals topped Glenwood City._ Malmlov leads the Cardinals in scoring averaging 25.2 points per game while Wallin scores 16.4 points a game._ Additionally, Malmlov is an incredible 28-29 at the free throw line this season._ Where are they now?_ Eric Halverson 2002 Prescott alumni._ A three sport athlete in high school, a multiple all conference selection, and a top 10 student, Halverson was the starting quarterback for the Cardinals in their 2000 march to the state title game. A three year starter at catcher, Halverson helped the Cardinals win three straight conference championships. After graduation Halverson attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he played club baseball for the Badgers and earned a degree in engineering._ The Prescott alumnus now resides in San Diego, California and has served as Project Manager for a company for 13 years and been involved in the construction of hospitals, schools, health care facilities, and other projects located from Los Angeles to San Diego._ Halverson played men’s league baseball in Orange County for eight years but “I hung up my cleats when we moved to San Diego and have now moved to golf as my new hobby.”
Wisconsin Wrestling Online has identified Cardinal junior Sam Murphy as Honorable Mention at 152 pounds in the most recent statewide rankings._ The Amery Warriors are the #2 ranked team in Division II and fellow Middle Conference team Baldwin-Woodville is ranked #11. The Ellsworth Panthers are currently listed as Honorable Mention in the same division. _ Both Amery and Baldwin- Woodville have several wrestlers listed in the top 10 in their respective weight classes and will supplant Ellsworth as champions of the Middle Border Conference this year.
Wisconsin Prep Hockey lists the New Richmond Tigers as the #3 ranked team in Division 2 with fellow Middle Border Conference team Baldwin-Woodville ranked #6._ Somerset and Amery also compete in the five team Middle Border Conference that also includes a team made up of players from Eau Claire Regis/ Altoona/Chippewa Falls Mc-Donnell._ Committee members are accepting nominations for induction into the Prescott Hall of Fame._ Nomination forms are available online at www.prescott.k12.wi.us. Those who prefer a hard copy can be one up at the high school office._ Nominations for the Hall of Fame are due April 1st, 2021._ Deserving individuals are nominated in one of three categories:_ service, achievement, or extra curricular. The 2021 induction banquet and ceremony will be held next fall and the current chair of the Hall of the Fame Committee is high school English teacher Tanya Sponholz. Stay tuned for further details. There are some rumors circulating about a proposed monthly trivia contest at a local Prescott business next year._ Let’s hope there is some truth to such local grapevine talk._ Headshaker of the week._ I know it has always been in vogue to blame the referees, umpires, officials any loss in football, basketball, softball, baseball, soccer, and any other team sport._ But complaining and whining every time you or a teammate are whistled for a foul or violation is really embarrassing._ A recent area basketball game featured a high school coach and their players giving the “I didn’t do anything wrong” non verbals to officials after each whistle._ Come on athletes and coaches._ Clean it up._ It’s a headshaker._
