A Spring Valley man who attempted to elude an officer because he didn’t want to go back to jail did not get his wish after a traffic stop Feb. 2.

Jeremy Alan Pretzer, 41, was ordered to pay $500 cash bail Feb. 5 in Pierce County Circuit Court on felony battery or threat to judge, prosecutor or law enforcement officer, resisting or obstructing an officer, operating while revoked (alcohol related), ignition interlock device tampering/failure to install/violate court order, possession of THC and possess drug paraphernalia charges. If convicted, the maximum penalty is up to six years in prison and/or fines up to $10,000.

According to the complaint:

A Pierce County Sheriff’s Office deputy on routine patrol at 11:49 p.m. Feb. 2 ran a license plate check on a brown Toyota Tundra traveling in front of him in Spring Valley. The registered owner, Pretzer, showed a revoked driving status due to a previous OWI and an ignition interlock device requirement. The officer attempted a traffic stop on South Third Street, but the Tundra didn’t stop and pulled into a parking lot at 308 S. Sabin St. The driver, Pretzer, exited the vehicle, yelled an obscenity at the officer and said he was not going back to jail.

Pretzer ignored commands to stop and ran up the stairs of the apartment building. When he reached the top, he ran into an apartment and locked the glass sliding door. The officer forcefully opened the locked door and drew out his Taser. Pretzer ignored verbal commands to get on the ground, balled up his left and threatened to kick the officer’s ass. The officer deployed the Taser into Pretzer’s chest, but he remained standing and yelling. The Taser was deployed again successfully and Pretzer was decentralized on the floor.

A Spring Valley officer arrived on the scene and helped the deputy secure Pretzer in handcuffs. In his left pants pocket officers found a metal smoking device with burnt THC and a green leafy substance suspected to be marijuana. While Spring Valley EMS evaluated Pretzer, officers searched his vehicle, where they found a $1 bill with white powder residue (later testing positive for cocaine), two THC vapes, a small white bottle containing marijuana and a freshly skinned deer (outside of the extended archery season). Pretzer had no ignition interlock device in the vehicle. He was taken to Pierce County Jail without incident.

Pretzer’s next court date is a status conference at 11 a.m. March 12.
