The River Falls boys’ hockey team fell 7-1 on the home ice against league-leading Chippewa Falls in a Big Rivers Conference match Thursday night, Jan. 11.
The Wildcats’ lone goal came on a power play in the third period with Chase Weissinger scoring on an assist by Charlie Friemann. Chippewa Falls had 66 shots on goal, compared to 23 for River Falls.
Luke Linehan had 39 saves in the net for the Wildcats.
Chippewa Falls is 8-0 in Big Rivers action, while the Wildcats fell to 2-6.
River Falls bounced back with a 3-2 overtime non-conference win over St. Paul Academy at home Saturday.
The Wildcats scored first with Mason Rappel finding the net with assists by Jake Lin and Charlie Friemann at the 10:10 mark of the first period.
The 1-0 tally stood until St. Paul Academy tied the match 19 seconds into period three. River Falls countered with Ben Johnson scoring with assists from Hunter Rappel and Mason Rappel. At the 16-minute mark, St. Paul Academy tied the match.
In overtime, Wyatt Hoepfl ended the match with a goal at the 1:19 mark.
St. Paul Academy had 44 shots on goal, compared to 36 for River Falls, outshooting the Wildcats 24-11 in the third period.
Dan Linn had 42 saves in goal for the Wildcats.
River Falls hosts Eau Claire Memorial at 7 p.m. Thursday in a Big Rivers match at the Wildcat Centre. They skate at New Richmond Tuesday.
