Wildcat softball is loaded up and truckin’

River Falls Head Softball Coach Leah Fletcher is in her first season at the helm for the Wildcats. It would be tough to have a better first week for the rookie head coach that lists "Smokey and the Bandit" in her top 20 favorite movies.

Speaking of the CB radio-era, the Wildcats were "10-4 good buddy" on the road against Osceola this past Thursday. River Falls was leading 5-4 in the top of the seventh when freshman Hudson Walker lined a two-run single and the Wildcats were loaded up and trucking on their way to a 10-4 win. Hudson pitched four innings of relief, allowing three runs on four hits and striking out six. Hudson also had three hits on the afternoon. Junior Audra Adermann started on the rubber for River Falls. Adermann notched the win throwing three innings. Adermann allowed one earned run on three hits while fanning seven.

Junior catcher Morgan Kivel also collected three hits, including a triple. Senior second baseman Jorgia Bengston and junior McKenna Cook both chipped in with two hits apiece.

River Falls-7, Spooner-6

Friday marked the home opener for the Wildcats against Spooner. Rails pitcher Annalie Lindgren jacked a two-run homer to left in the top of the first inning. Spooner's Layla Thompson had reached base on an error in the outfield with two outs. Wildcat catcher Morgan Kivel continued to have the hammer down. After Hudson Walker drew a walk in the bottom of the first, Kivel unloaded a high arching moon-shot to left field to tie the game at two-apiece.

The Rails would score four more runs, two in the third and two in the sixth. All six Rail runs were unearned thanks to three Wildcat errors.

River Falls had a long way to go and a short time to get there, down 6-2 in the bottom of the sixth. Sophomore Dani Poellinger delivered the big blow for the Wildcats with a two-run double. Poellinger was 2 for 3 on the day.

Senior Jorgia Bengston was 1 for 3 with an RBI and a walk. Bengston also stole three bases. Adermann picked up her second win on the year. Adermann threw a complete game, striking out eight. The Wildcats improved to 2-0 on the season.

River Falls will be eastbound and down on Thursday, April 3 for a tilt against Ellsworth. First pitch is at 4:30 p.m.
