Girls basketball faced a short week due to Thanksgiving break, but four of the teams got some action in.

Prescott improved to 1-2 overall and 1-0 in Middle Border play with a win over Osceola 60-32 Nov. 26. Violet Otto led the way with 23, but many players made key contributions including Hannah Schommer with 10 points, Nora Boles going for nine and Rory Zuehlsdorf adding eight.

Ellsworth lost to St. Croix Central 56-46 Nov. 26, moving the Panthers to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in conference play. They get right back into conference action as they head to Altoona Tuesday, then host non-conference opponent La Crosse Logan on Friday.

River Falls fell to 0-4 after losing a pair at the Kettle Moraine Thanksgiving Classic to Cambridge and Martin Luther over the weekend. The matchup with Cambridge was a 57-56 nailbiter, with Kaelin Jalowitz scoring 20, followed by Addy Timm with 12 and Abigail Treichel with 11. They lost 52-44 against Martin Luther with Treichel posting 21.

Next up for the Wildcats is their first conference matchup in Menomonie Friday, followed by a UWRF tournament over the weekend.

Spring Valley was no match for Alma/Pepin on Nov. 26, losing 64-52 to fall to 0-2. Freshman Jada Hoolihan led the way with 21 points. The Cardinals have a trio of road matchups this week, facing Clear Lake on Tuesday, Glenwood City on Thursday and Cadott on Saturday.

Elmwood/Plum City had the week off of games, with conference play starting Thursday in Mondovi.

Hockey

Hockey season is underway for both the River Falls boys and the St. Croix Valley Fusion girls. The Wildcats started 0-2 after an 8-0 loss to Neenah/Hortonville/Menasha on Friday and a 4-1 loss to St. Paul Highland Park on Saturday.

The Fusion started 1-2 with a 3-2 win over Black River Falls and 5-1 and 6-1 losses to Hastings and Bay Area.

Both squads took on some tough competition to open the season in hopes of readying themselves for the road ahead.

 

Boys Basketball

The boys basketball season starts this week, with River Falls hosting Mahtomedi on Friday.

Ellsworth has a Tuesday game hosting Black River Falls before already kicking off conference play in St. Croix Central on Friday.

Prescott has an extremely busy week ahead, playing in Holmen on Monday, hosting Hastings on Tuesday, heading to Osceola on Friday, playing in a UW-Stout tournament Saturday and closing out with a Monday matchup hosting Elk Mound.

Spring Valley starts its season Tuesday at home against Alma/Pepin and closes Saturday at the UW-Stout tournament.

EPC opens with a home game Thursday against Osseo-Fairchild and is also competing at the UW-Stout tournament.

Wrestling

Wrestling is back in full swing, with the biggest event being the Ellsworth Invitational that features Ellsworth, River Falls, Prescott and Spring Valley/Elmwood on Saturday.

Prescott also heads to Eau Claire to face Eau Claire Memorial and Rice Lake on Thursday.

Ellsworth heads to Park High School on Friday to face Park and Hastings.

River Falls gets right into the swing of things with a conference match Thursday, hosting Menomonie.

River Falls girls wrestling is competing in an invitational at St. Michael-Albertville on Saturday.

Gymnastics

River Falls gymnastics kicks off its season Saturday at an invitational in Wisconsin Rapids.


Boys swimming and diving

River Falls competed at an invitational in Menomonie to open the year and will follow it up with one in Chippewa Falls on Saturday.
