You can take steps (literally) to improve the function of your brain (and your heart). Controllable lifestyle factors play a large part in reducing risk for cognitive changes as you age. Research shows that it’s never too late to try something new, increase your movement, practice new stress-reduction techniques, eat a better diet, improve your sleep and/or engage with others more regularly. All these things can help to build cognitive reserves and decrease your risk for cognitive decline. Join Amy Luther, Dementia Care Specialist from the ADRC of Pierce County as she shares information about pursuing a well-rounded approach to healthier living, discusses ways to boost your brain health and the importance of having conversations with your medical provider about treatable health conditions. Amy will also share resource information about caregiver support, brain health check-ups, and upcoming ADRC events that provide opportunities to keep our noggins functioning by living a healthy, purposeful and engaged lifestyle. Cake and ice cream will be served following the presentation.
Game Day is set for 1-3 p.m. Tuesday, May 6. We will gather for fun, group games and conversation. This will be the last game day until next fall.
Discover Together Tuesday is at 11 a.m. May 13. Join author, lecturer and researcher Chad Lewis for an engaging presentation on "Wisconsin Gangster History." Discover the fascinating and untold stories of the notorious gangsters who sought refuge in Wisconsin. In this captivating presentation, Lewis explores which infamous criminals hid out in the state, the secret locations they frequented, and the intriguing reasons why Wisconsin became a popular haven for some of America's most notorious figures. This historical journey promises to shine a light on a thrilling chapter of Wisconsin's past. A luncheon will follow, sponsored by the Ellsworth Senior Center and the Friends of the Ellsworth Public Library.
The Balanced Wellness Presentation with CJ Young will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 21. Please note that we are having a change of location. We will be meeting at Country Fit (273 N. Morse St.) for all future wellness presentations. CJ will be using her Tanita computer to read our personal Body Composition Readings following her presentation. CJ will present a wellness topic followed by some group exercises to help maintain our balance and strength.
Unless otherwise stated, all events are at the Ellsworth Senior Center, located at English Lutheran Church (229 W. Main St., Ellsworth).
