Plum City Care Center is out of quarantine

The quarantine continued Monday morning this week, but we were allowed to have folks play a “socially distanced” game of Bean Bag Toss in the dining room! There was only a small group of six residents competing for first place but we had fun anyway. Jeff Halverson came in fifth place, Ivan Mason was fourth, and Barb Halling came in third while Nancy Bishop and Milda Bautch tied for second place. Shirley Klinski was the first-place winner! The rest of the regularly scheduled activities were still cancelled for the afternoon and evening, but the morning game definitely put a little pep in everyone’s step and a smile on their faces!

With church cancelled for Tuesday, Stacey and Noel went room to room in the morning strumming the guitar and singing hymns with folks. It really seemed to brighten everyone’s day and plenty of residents sang and clapped along to the familiar tunes. Aaliyah popped fresh kernels of popcorn in the afternoon and delivered them room to room with many residents happily accepting bags of fresh and delicious popcorn!

Finally on Wednesday the quarantine was over and we were able to assemble the crew together again for a morning bowling game! Students from Plum City Elementary, Mason and Oscar, were here as well to help with score keeping and pin resetting. You would think after two weeks of no group activities everyone would be a little rusty, but that was definitely not the case! Janet Robelia and Shirley Klinski tied for fourth place, Ivan Mason was third and Milda Bautch came in second. The first-place spot was shared this week by Beryl Anderson and Kevin Bauer! It felt really good to be bowling again! After lunch, residents came back to the dining room for Fruit Bingo, with volunteer Irene Helmueller. Thank you Irene for all your wonderful help with set up, clean up and prize passing! Shirley Klinski was the big winner of Blackout Bingo this week, taking home the prize of $1! The day wrapped up with our Mid-Week Social, where we snacked on delicious apple turnovers…yummy!

Thursday morning brought Marlene Zimmer to the care center to catch us up on the happenings in the community. At our Local News and Coffee activity, she read from the local papers and shared a cup of joe with us! After lunch, folks stuck around to participate in the monthly Resident Council Meeting to recap the last month and to stay informed on what’s ahead on the calendar for November. Later on in the afternoon, Aaliyah freshened up the ladies’ nails with manicures and Stacey played an impromptu

game of “Name That Tune” on the piano. Dorothy Pfaffe, Shirley Klinski and Alice Brantner were all the top tune guessers! We capped off the day with supper and then an evening game of Pokeno with Aaliyah.

Shuffleboard ushered in our Friday morning and our small but mighty group of competitors lined up to test their might! Ivan Mason came in fourth place, Mary Matzek was in third place and Shirley Klinski shuffled her way into second place. Jeff Halverson was the shuffleboard champion this week! After residents refreshed themselves with lunch and we spent some time visiting, Happy Hour was upon us. We donned our best costumes because it was a Halloween Happy Hour, with entertainment provided by The Earneys! There were spooky witches, comical clowns and cute critters galore; we had so much fun celebrating Halloween and reveling in each other’s costumes! Once the capes, wigs and hats were put away, supper was served and then we settled in for Movie Night. This week’s Friday flick was the Halloween classic “Hocus Pocus”….what a treat (not a trick)! Happy Halloween everyone!
