Plum City Care Center weathers COVID outbreak

Posted

Throughout this week, the care center unfortunately had to cancel all regularly scheduled activities due to Covid. But we didn’t let that stop us from having fun in any way we safely could! Monday morning, Stacey, on lead vocals and guitar, along with Noel on backup vocals went room to room for a Sing Along to bring music and cheer to residents. A cart was also loaded up, filled with fun things to do with residents in their rooms. We played dice games, dominoes and Uno, as well as handed out crossword and word search books. There was definitely plenty of time to chat and visit and sometimes all you need is someone to lend you an ear and offer you a smile!

There were smiles galore on Tuesday as Stacey filled her cart with individual bags of freshly popped popcorn to pass out; and on Wednesday residents had the opportunity to play “Spin the Wheel!” to win fabulous prizes of candy, high fives and hugs! Noel then served pumpkin pie cookies, coffee and cocoa to everyone during a little lull in the afternoon.

Thanksgiving was on Thursday, so we began the day with a little Turkey Shoot. Noel brought around the turkey target and Nerf dart gun to all the resident sharp shooters and there were quite a few high scores! Donna Bauer claimed fourth place with 110 points, Teresa Detki scored third with 145 points and Lorraine Komro placed second with a solid 200 points. Our first-place turkey shoot champion was LeRoy ‘Hank’ Hankinson with a whopping 350 points! A delicious Thanksgiving meal was served at noon and some folks settled in afterward to watch the Lions beat the Bears at the afternoon Thanksgiving football game. Once everyone had taken a little nap after eating all that yummy turkey, stuffing and pumpkin pie, Noel went around and asked folks what they were thankful for. Everyone’s answers were written on colorful leaves and added to our “Thankful Tree” displayed in the dining room.

As the temperature continued to drop as we made it to Friday, we ended our week with an afternoon in-room Happy Hour, with Noel and Willow pumping up the polka tunes and serving Chocolate Chex Mix, in honor of National Chocolate Day!
