TOWN OF ROCK ELM – A longstanding tradition dating back to 1886, the Annual Meeting of the Rock Elm Old Settlers is coming up soon. It is to be held on Thursday, Nov. 6 at the Rock Elm Methodist Church. Lunch will be served at noon, followed by a short meeting and then a special program to celebrate the reprint of Lavern Flanders’ book on Rock Elm Township’s rich history. So, if you are a local history lover, or have Rock Elm Township roots, we hope to see you at this year’s meeting.
Multiple members of Lavern’s family will be in attendance and will be sharing the story of how this book originally came to be. We will also have some special guests reading excerpts from a wonderful section of the book that contains stories of the same original settlers we gather to celebrate each year. What a wonderful way to honor the original old settlers by reading about their experiences in their own words.
The Rock Elm Old Settlers is a chapter of the Pierce County Historical Association. We are very proud to carry on this long-standing tradition of celebrating Rock Elm’s original settlers. We hope you will help us keep this tradition going, either by attending the event, joining to be a member, or by making donations to the group. We would love if you could RSVP to ensure there will be enough food. Copies of the reprinted and remastered book on Rock Elm’s history by Lavern Flanders will be available for purchase.
