PRESCOTT – Local veterans recently enjoyed a fishing trip on the Mississippi River thanks to Outdoor Adventure Hunting & Fishing, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing hunting and fishing opportunities for veterans.

Outdoor Adventure Hunting & Fishing is a 501(c)(3) organization with more than 1,000 members. The organization specializes in arranging outdoor experiences that many veterans might not otherwise have the opportunity to enjoy. Recent events have included ice fishing trips on Red Lake and Lake of the Woods. Upcoming activities include a catfish outing in July, as well as elk, antelope, and deer hunting opportunities later this year.

The organization is led by President Dave Schindler of Chippewa Falls, who along with many volunteers, works to honor veterans through outdoor recreation, fellowship, and appreciation for their service.

A special thank-you goes to Prescott American Legion Post 61 which hosted the group after fishing. Hamburgers, brats and dessert were served.

Also thank you to Dan Cater and Tweet-Garot Mechanical, a manufacturing company in De Pere, for donating a beautiful laser-cut stainless-steel fire ring that was awarded as a prize for the largest walleye caught during the event. Gary Licht was the winner, with a 19-inch walleye.

Organizations such as Outdoor Adventure Hunting & Fishing demonstrate the strong support that communities continue to show for those who have served our nation. Their efforts provide veterans with memorable experiences, camaraderie, and opportunities to enjoy the outdoors.
