ELLSWORTH – CrossRoads Spirituality Center, located at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ (W5706 State Road 72) will host an interfaith presentation and lunch in celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 15.
“We are calling our community to reflect on the implications of embodying a ‘beloved community,’” said Pastor Herbert A. Perkins, PhD. “We ask, what does the call to ‘beloved community’ require of us today? What would we and our communities be concerned about, and what actions would we take, if we embraced King’s vision? On this King Day celebration, speakers will address the ways King’s legacy is relevant today – relevant for Mississippi River and St. Croix Valley communities.”
The speakers will explore the collective legacy of uplifting King’s legacy and continuing to pursue the social justice vision that “ungirded Jesus’ ‘Kingdom of God’ teachings and mission.”
Kristi Smith, the executive director for St. Croix Valley Habitat for Humanity, will be a special guest speaker. The keynote speaker will be the Rev. Denise Dunbar Perkins, a liaison for Immigrant Fellowship Communities Presbytery of the Twin Cities Area. The program will also include Civil Rights era “Freedom Songs” and conclude with a community lunch.
The event is intergenerational. All are welcome, especially youth and students.
